Townsend for her lifetime of service to the City of Indianapolis and the State of Indiana. WHEREAS, Lynna S. Townsend was born in East Chicago, Indiana and attended Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) School 23, James Whitcomb Riley School 43 and Broad Ripple High School; and WHEREAS, Lynna S. Townsend joined Indiana Black Expo, Inc. 31 years ago in 1989 when the organization was headquartered in its humble beginnings located on 34th and Sutherland and led by the late Reverend Charles R. Williams who served as president; and WHEREAS, Lynna S. Townsend was a contributing writer of That Black Men Might Live: My Fight Against Prostate Cancer written by Reverend Charles R. Williams and Vernon A. Williams; and WHEREAS, Lynna S. Townsend supported the expansion of Indiana Black Expo, Inc. to include 12 chapters throughout the State of Indiana in cities including Anderson, East Chicago, Elkhart, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Gary, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Greater Lafayette, Michigan City, Muncie and South Bend; and WHEREAS, Indiana Black Expo, Inc. celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020 and has remained steadfast in its efforts to recognize cultural diversity and inclusiveness across all races, ethnicities, nationalities, generations, socioeconomic levels and religious affiliations; and WHEREAS, Lynna S. Townsend has provided a lifetime of service to the City of Indianapolis and State of Indiana elevating the awareness of African Americans and spanning administrations ranging from Mayor Bill Hudnut to Joe Hogsett and Governors Robert D. Orr, Evan Bayh to Eric Holcolmb; and WHEREAS, Lynna S. Townsend has remained a confidante, loyal and humble employee going above and beyond the call of duty and celebrating more years of service with the organization than any other employee in its history; and WHEREAS, Lynna S. Townsend has four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and is an avid motorcyclist serving as secretary of the Indianapolis Chapter of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club; now, therefore: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY-COUNTY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS AND OF MARION COUNTY, INDIANA: Proposal No. 206, 2020 Page 2 SECTION 1. The Indianapolis City-County Council proudly recognizes and celebrates Lynna S. Townsend for her decades of service to Indiana Black Expo. SECTION 2. The Council congratulates Lynna S. Townsend on her many accomplishments to the city of Indianapolis and families in Marion County. SECTION 3. The Mayor is invited to join in this resolution by affixing his signature hereto. SECTION 4. This resolution shall be in full force and effect upon adoption and compliance with IC 36-3-4- 14.
