CABARET THEATRE Congratulations to our award-winning News Team for their dedication to telling stories in compelling and respectful ways. That’s exactly what you’ll find in our “Finding Tammy Joy” podcast. Co-hosted and produced by WXXI News’ Veronica Volk and Democrat and Chronicle’s Gary Craig, the podcast looks at a three-decade old, unsolved murder case of a 16-year-old girl found dead in an upstate New York cornfield. The podcast has had impressive listener numbers – more than 35,000, and Wired Magazine named it one of five must listen to podcasts. If you haven’t subscribed to this podcast, I encourage you to do so at iTunes or GooglePlay, or listen at WXXInews.org. If you’re looking for a break from the public affairs arena, there’s no better time than summertime to catch a film at the Little Theatre. Some of the best movies of the year roll out over the summer months and The Little’s line-up of independent and foreign films makes it a go-to destination. And don’t just take my word for it – the Rochester Business Journal noted that The Little is the #5 Cultural Attraction in the region, with more than 220,000 attendees in 2015. There’s so much to enjoy in Rochester this time of year. I hope you able to take advantage of all that this season has to offer. Valid for 2-for-1 admission during July excludes Friday & Saturday evenings. Reservations required. Best regards, Call (585) 325-4370 to reserve tickets. Subject to availability. 20 Windsor Street Rochester, NY downstairscabaret.com Norm Silverstein [email protected] | @normWXXI Q&A WITH A WXXI UNDERWRITER “We started with all of our favorite things to eat, and then gradually tweaked them over time to create the current menu.” According to co-owner Aaron Metras, this was how the comfort food menu came about at Nox Cocktail Lounge. Here’s more about this English-style pub at the Village Gate Square. Q. What is the meaning behind the name “nox?” Nox is the Latin word for “night,” as well as the Wand-Extinguishing Charm spell from the Harry Potter books. We felt this reference was appropriate for a literary-themed cocktail bar, especially since we are all Harry Potter fans. Q. The gourmet-style comfort foods and cocktails you create are built on a theme. How did that come about? We are all kind of nerds at heart so we tried to come up with items that reflected EVENTS our general love for geekiness. Co-owners James and Corinne Black found ways to connect the food names to literature. James created all of the drinks on the menu from scratch so they are items you won’t find anywhere else. & Q. Any favorite events at nox to date? Plans for July? We do a weekly “Geeks who Drink” PubQuiz on Sundays which has been a huge hit.
