Our Travel Style One thing we’ve learned at Peregrine – you never outgrow adventure. The spirit that drives you to get out there and see the world. Not through a coach window or with 50 strangers wearing headsets, not with a personal butler or a big buffet breakfast – but intimately, authentically, memorably. At Peregrine we’re for premium adventures, and for us that means embracing the spirit of adventure through a more immersive cultural journey. Hand-picked accommodation, small groups, award-winning local guides, added inclusions and a more considered pace. Premium means an exceptional experience, but never an artificial one. Yes, adventure still exists. It’s still out there. It just got a whole lot easier to find. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Peregrine Adventures endeavours to provide the services of an experienced leader however, due to the seasonality of travel, rare situations may arise where your leader is new to a particular region or training other group leaders. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects. At Peregrine Adventures we aim to support local guides who have specialised knowledge of the regions we visit. If you were interested in delving deeper into the local culture at a specific site or location then your leader can recommend a local guide service in most of the main destinations of your trip. We'll be collecting your insurance details and next of kin information at this meeting, so please have these on hand. Tonight, you will enjoy a dinner to kick-start your trip! Arrival Transfer Included Accommodation: Legacy Ottoman Hotel or similar Day 2 / Monday 25th May 2020 Istanbul Meals included: Breakfast, lunch This morning, you will start your tour with the Hippodrome. Hippodrome of Constantinople, located in Sultanahmet, was a public arena mainly for chariot races. The word hippodrome comes from the Greek hippos (horse) and dromos (way). Blue Mosque will be your next stop. Also known as the Sultan Ahmet Camii (or Sultan Ahmed Mosque), this breath-taking building is one of the most majestic Ottoman mosques in all of Turkey. Continue onto Hagia Sophia Museum. The temple itself was so richly and artistically decorated that Byzantine Emperor Justinian proclaimed, "Solomon, I have outdone thee!". You’ll have a lunch break before continuing with the Basilica Cistern, known locally as Yerebatan Sarayi (meaning Sunken Palace) or Yerebatan Sarnici (Sunken Cistern). This underground water cistern was the major water reservoir of Constantinople. End your day with the Grand Bazaar. It is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with 61 covered streets and over 4,000 shops which attract between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. In 2014, it was listed No.1 among the world's most-visited tourist attractions with 91,250,000 annual visitors. The Grand Bazar at Istanbul is often regarded as one of the first shopping malls of the world. Included activities Blue Mosque Hippodrome Hagia Sophia Museum Grand Bazaar Basilica Cistern Accommodation: Legacy Ottoman Hotel or similar Day 3 / Tuesday 26th May 2020 Canakkale Meals included: Breakfast, lunch Early this morning, after breakfast we begin the drive to Çanakkale (approx. 4,5 hours), located on the shores of the Dardanelles, which connects the Sea of Marmara to the Aegean Sea and touches both Europe (with the Gelibolu Peninsula) and Asia (with the Biga Peninsula). After lunch we will visit Gallipoli, visit the beach and cemeteries of Anzac Cove. Then head up the hill toward the poignant memorials of Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair. Look down upon the rough hills and gullies that became the graveyard for so many thousands of young men from both sides. You will tour the former battlefields and find remnants of trenches used by the Turkish soldiers. Return to Canakkale for the night. Included Activities Gallipoli Guided Visit Accommodation: Grand Anzac Hotel or similar Day 4 / Wednesday 27th May 2020 Selcuk Meals included: Breakfast En route to Selcuk (approx. 5 hours) today you'll stop at the site of Troy. As well as seeing the remnants of the ancient city walls and the famed wooden horse, you will learn more about the groundbreaking archaeological digs here and how the site has baffled historians. Before arriving at Selcuk we stop at a Carpet Weaving Centre and take some time to learn about this ancient art, wander the grounds and the store at your leisure or simply sit relax and enjoy some Turkish tea. Arrive at Selcuk later in the day and visit Sirince to enjoy a tasting of local fruit wine. Included Activities Troy - Archeological Guided Site Visit Sirince – Wine Tasting Bergama – Carpet Weaving Demonstration and Shop Accommodation: Ephesus Paradise or similar Day 5 / Thursday 28th May 2020 Selcuk Meals included: Breakfast This morning enjoy an orientation walk around the village of Selcuk, a sprawling town lying at the base of the ancient Aysoluk Hill fortress. You'll visit the last remaining column of the Temple of Artemis, the ancient aqueducts and the 14th-century Isabey Mosque. Later this afternoon visit Ephesus, one of the best-preserved classical cities in the Eastern Mediterranean and arguably the greatest Greco-Roman site in the world. Tour around the amphitheatre, stroll the marble streets once walked by Cleopatra and Mark Antony, and marvel at the gymnasium, baths and beautifully restored Library of Celsus. Included Activities Selcuk Orientation Walk Ephesus – Archeological Site Isa Bey Camii Accommodation: Ephesus Paradise or similar Day 6 / Friday 29th May 2020 Pamukkale Meals included: Breakfast After breakfast this morning we drive to Pamukkale (approx. 2,5 hours), also known as 'Cotton Castle' and a truly unique sight. This magical and spectacular natural phenomenon was created by deposits from thermal waters that cascaded down the mountainside over hundreds of years, forming a myriad of pools and terraces. As the water overflows from the pools, dazzling cream-coloured stalactites are formed that, from afar, resemble cotton or snow.
