Glasgow Square Theatre – 2015 Music Nova Scotia Community Presenter of the Year – Come explore our intimate setting and diverse season. Welcome to Spring 2016 at Glasgow Square Theatre. April is the official kick off to our spring season, and also includes Volunteer Appreciation Week. It really must be said that without our team of passionate and dedicated volunteers, much if not all of what we do and present would not be possible. With that, we present another season chalk full of variety, diversity and talent. Our season begins with a Green Room CD Release performance from Pictou County’s own Ashley George, and an ambitious pairing of ECMA award winner Erin Costelo and the NNEC Choir. For the music fans throughout the rest of the season, we have the debut of Pictou County Pop Classics, an enormous production including more than 40 performers from the area with a tribute to the 1970s. Also, the incredible return of Heather Rankin, formerly of the Rankin Family along with Kim Dunn, the homegrown talent of Lacey Morrell, the return of Stadacona Band and a showcase of three incredible guitarists – Christine Campbell, Ryan Cook and John Campbelljohn. Comedy fans, we have the return of award winning comedian Mike MacDonald. Miss Carla’s Dance presents their annual spring recital, which is always a sellout. The New Glasgow Youth Theatre Society brings Alice in Wonderland to the stage for two performances, including a Dinner Theatre on one of the evenings. Have a look through our program – there really is something for everyone. The experience of the performing arts on stage is entertaining, but can also be powerful, rewarding and inspiring. On behalf of the staff and volunteers of Glasgow Square Theatre, we look forward to seeing you this fall. Erin Costelo’s latest album Down Below, The Status Quo is a reflection of her (and our) complicated world, expressed through a voice unlike any other in Canada. Having paid more overt tribute to her vintage soul music influences on her previous album, We Can Get Over, her musical evolution has taken its next natural step on Down Below, The Status Quo by channeling those themes into 10 new deeply personal tracks that display her exceptional gifts as a producer, songwriter and arranger. The Status Quo follows on the heels of We Can Get Over being named R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the 2014 East Coast Music Awards. A donation from proceeds of this performance will be made to both Pictou County Safe Harbour and CAIRN, supporting Syrian refugees in our community. 4 J023882s01 GlasgowSquare SpringBrochure 11x8.5.indd 5 2016-03-08 4:22 PM Award Winning Comedy with Mike MacDonald Friday May 6 Doors 7pm | Show 8pm Tickets $20 advance | $25 door By popular demand, the legendary Mike MacDonald returns to Glasgow Square for a side-splitting evening of comedy. The Rankins made their mark throughout the 90s – touring the world, selling over a million records and bringing the music of Cape Breton and Nova Scotia to an international audience. For A Fine Line, Heather’s first solo recording, she enlisted producer David Tyson (Amanda Marshall, Jude Cole) for the project. Along with Tyson, Heather co-penned seven of the album’s eleven tracks. This new release sees Heather forge her own musical legacy with upbeat ‘Rankin-style’ numbers, soaring ballads, personal and poetic lyrics and bold collaborations including the first single, a cover of the Tears For Fears hit, “Everybody Wants to Rule The World” featuring Halifax rap artist Quake Matthews. North Sydney’s Kim Dunn was the recipient of the first ECMA Musician Special Achievement Award for his work as a singer, songwriter, producer, arranger, musical director and pianist. He has performed extensively throughout North America and abroad and has worked with an ‘A-list’ of artists including Rita MacNeil, Bruce Guthro, Matt Minglewood, Alison Krauss, Jimmy Rankin, David Myles, Jill Barber, Dave Gunning and countless others. Kim’s latest recording, Inspiration offers listeners an indelible collection of heartfelt, rootsy tunes anchored by a pitch-perfect tenor delivery and incomparable musicianship. This music is made to last and only gets better with each listen. 6 J023882s01 GlasgowSquare SpringBrochure 11x8.5.indd 7 2016-03-08 4:22 PM Glasgow Square Theatre Pictou County Pop Classics Friday May 13 Doors 7pm | Show 8pm Tickets $25 advance | $30 door 42 musicians, 42 songs.
