The Ben Hogan Tour will be a thirty event series of $100,000 golf tournaments which will serve as a proving ground for players who wish to pursue a career cn either the PGA TOUR or the Senior PGA TOUR. Ben Hogan Tour events will consist of 54 holes of official competition, preceded by a Thursday pro-am and a Monday Open Qualifier at the tournament site. Field size for the tournaments will beset at 132 players with a cut to the low 50 scores and ties following the first 36 holes of play. The Ben Hogan Tour will cross the United States making stops In all regions of the country. The Tour will begin in February in California and move east. The new Tour will make stops in such places as Bakersfield. CA; Pittsburgh, PA; Buffalo, NY and wind up in El Paso, TX in mid-October. There will also be stops in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Kansas, Iowa, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Indiana, Arizona, Missouri, Connecticut, Maine and Arkansas. "We are elated to be able to bring about these much needed playing oppor- tunities and we are especially pleased that we have a partner with the stature of the Ben Hogan Company involved." said PGA TOUR Commissioner Deane R. Beman. "Ben Hogan is known for his uncompromising pursuit of excellence; we will apply Ben's standards to our new Tour." For Mr. Hogan, winner of 63 PGA TOUR events, the new Tour is a pleasure to be a part of. "We at the Ben Hogan Company are happy to be part of this exciting new concept that so directly affects the future of golf," said Hogan, the Chairman of the Ben Hogan Company. "I believe that this Tour will produce a high caliber of play that will eventually strengthen play on the Regular TOUR." The stars on the Ben Hogan Tour will make their presence known on the PGA TOUR, as the top five money winners on the Hogan Tour will receive an exemp- tion onto the PGA TOUR the following year. The starting field will be made up of winners of Ben Hogan Tour events, the top 50 available players from the 80 finishers and ties immediately following those 50 players and ties who received membership on the PGA TOUR. At the previous year's PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament, the top 25 available players from the top 35 and ties of the Ben Hogan Tour Qualifying Tournament, 10 players selected on a competitive basis by the host PGA of America section, five players determined by the PGA of America national office and seven other players at the option of the host PGA section.
