Year State Region Reason No. 1. 2017 Jammu Pulwama Mobile Internet services were suspended yet again in Pulwama and district of Kashmir on 16 th August, 2017 to prevent rumour Kashmir mongering after a Lashkar commander was killed in a gunfight with the security forces. 2. 2017 Jammu Kashmir Mobile and broadband Internet services were suspended in the and Valley Kashmir valley in the morning of 15 th August, 2017 as a Kashmir precautionary measure on Independence Day. Services were reportedly restored later in the day. 3. 2017 Jammu Shopian, Internet services were suspended in Shopian and Kulgam district and Kulgam of Kashmir on 13 th August, 2017 to prevent the spreading of Kashmir information after three Hizbul Mujahideen militants including the operations commander, and two army men were killed in an encounter. 4. 2017 Jammu Pulwama Internet services were suspended in Pulwama district of Kashmir and on 9 th August, 2017 as a precautionary measure after three militants Kashmir were killed in a gunfight with the Government forces in the Tral township. However, the services on state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited remained functional. 5. 2017 Jammu Baramulla Mobile Internet services were suspended in Baramulla district of and Kashmir as a precautionary measure on 5th August, 2017 after Kashmir three LeT militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces in the Sopore town of the district. 6. 2017 Jammu Kashmir Mobile Internet services were suspended yet again across Kashmir and Valley on 1st August, 2017 as a precautionary measure fearing clashes Kashmir after the killing of Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Abu Dujana and his aide in an encounter with the security forces. The services were restored on 20 th July, 2017 - 14 hours after they were shut. 10. 2017 Jammu Kashmir While mobile Internet services were already shut, broadband and Valley services too were snapped in Kashmir Valley on 18 th July, 2017 as Kashmir a precautionary measure after the killing of three terrorist in an encounter with the security forces. 11. 2017 Jammu Kashmir Mobile Internet services were shut down yet again as a and Valley precautionary measure in Anantnag district on 16 th July, 2017 Kashmir following the killing of militants in gun-battle with forces on 15th July. 12. 2017 Gujarat Morbi, Internet services were suspended in Morbi and Surendranagar Surendran districts of Gujarat on 14 th July, 2017 to prevent rumour mongering agar on social media following violent clashes between members of Bharwad and Rajput communities. The services were restored on 18 th July, 2017 . 13. 2017 Rajastha Nagaur, Internet services were suspended in the evening of 11 th July, 2017 n Bikaner, in the districts of Nagaur, Bikaner, Churu and Sikar to prevent Churu, spread of rumours after the violence in Sanvrad with Rajput Sikar community demanding Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry in the encounter of gangster Anand Pal Singh. The services reportedly resumed on 14 th July, 2017. 14. 2017 Jammu Jammu Both Internet and broadband services were suspended in Jammu and late at night on 10th July, 2017 as a precautionary measure Kashmir following the killing of Amarnath pilgrims in a militant attack in the Kashmir Valley. The services were reportedly restored on 12 th July, 2017 , 36 hours after they were suspended. 15. 2017 Jammu Kashmir Just a day after the Internet services were restored, both mobile and Valley and broadband Internet services were again suspended in the Kashmir Kashmir Valley in the night of 10th July, 2017 at 10 pm as a precautionary measure after the appeal of separatists to people to launch a "Kashmir awareness" campaign on social media on 11th July. However, the services were restored in the midnight after remaining suspended for around two hours. 16. 2017 Jammu Kashmir Both mobile and broadband Internet services were suspended in and Valley the Kashmir Valley on 6th July, 2017 as a precautionary measure in Kashmir view of law and order situations on the first death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen 'commander' Burhan Wani. While the 2G mobile Internet services were restored on the night of 8th July, 2017, broadband services were restored in the morning of 9th July, 2017. 17. 2017 West North 24 Baduria and Basirhat areas of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal Parganas Bengal saw suspension of Internet services on 5 th July, 2017 after violent communal clashes broke out over an objectionable Facebook post by a 17 year old boy. The services were restored on July 10 th , 2017 in Basirhat. 18. 2017 Jammu Anantnag Mobile Internet services were shutdown on 1 st July, 2017 to and prevent rumour mongering on social media websites after violent Kashmir clashes between militants and government forces in Brenthi Dialgam village. 19. 2017 Rajastha Churu, Mobile Internet was suspended on 30 th June, 2017 to prevent n Nagaur rumour mongering after the protests by the Rajput community over the encounter killing of gangster intensified. The services were reportedly restored on July 5, 2017. 20. 2017 West Darjeeling Days after mobile Internet services were shutdown in Darjeeling, Bengal broadband services were also suspended in the area for a period of 7 days on 20 th June, 2017 in the interest of public safety, following the indefinite strike by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) for a separate Gorkhaland. 21. 2017 West Darjeeling Mobile Internet services were blocked in Darjeeling on 18th June, Bengal 2017 following deaths of party supporters in violent clashes between the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and security forces after the former called for a complete strike in its agitation for a separate Gorkhalnd. 22. 2017 Jammu Kashmir Mobile Internet was shutdown again in Kashmir Valley on 16 th and Valley June, 2017 as a precautionary measure after firing by the security Kashmir forces’caused the death of a youth leading to escalated tensions in the region. The services resumed on June 19 th , 2017 . 23. 2017 Uttar Saharanpu Internet services were suspended in Saharanpur district yet again Pradesh r on 8th June, 2017 following the arrest of the main accused in Saharanpur violence, for a period of two days, to prevent any unrest. The services were reportedly restored in the afternoon of 12 th June, 2017 . 24. 2017 Jammu Kashmir Kashmir Valley witnessed another suspension of mobile Internet and Valley services on 7 th June, 2017 after the death of a civilian in firing by Kashmir security forces. 25. 2017 Madhya Mandsaur, Internet services were suspended in the districts of Mandsaur, Pradesh Ratlam, Ratlam, Ujjain, Neemuch, Indore, Dewas on 6th June, 2017 Ujjain, following the farmers’ protest in Madhya Pradesh demanding Neemuch, higher rates for their produce. The services were restored on 11 th Indore, June, 2017. Dewas 26. 2017 Maharas Nashik Mobile Internet services were suspended in Nashik for a few hours htra on 5 th June, 2017 as the State-wide strike called by farmers turned violent in the former area. 27. 2017 Jammu Kashmir Mobile Internet services were suspended yet again in the Kashmir and Valley Valley region as a preventive measure on 27 th May, 2017 in order Kashmir to check rumour mongering following the encounter of a Hizbul terrorist. The services were reportedly restored on 2 nd June, 2017 . 28. 2017 Uttar Saharanpu Mobile Internet services were suspended in Saharanpur on 24 th Pradesh r April, 2017 to contain rumour mongering on social media amid violent caste based clashes between Dalit and Rajput community. The services were restored after 10 days on June 3, 2017 . 29. 2017 Odisha Kendrapar Internet services were reportedly suspended for 48 hours in a Kendrapara on 19 th April, 2017 to prevent rumor mongering over a social media post with objectionable content. The services were reported to be restored on 21 st April, 2017. 30. 2017 Rajastha Udaipur As a precautionary measure, mobile Internet services were n and suspended in Udaipur and Fatehnagar areas on late 18 h April, 2017 Fatehnaga to curb the escalation of tensions over a social media post saying, r “Pakistan zindabad hai, a ur zindabad rahega.”. The service was reported to be restored on 19th April, 2017. 31. 2017 Jammu Kashmir Mobile Internet services were ordered to be suspended yet again and valley on 17 th April, 2017 as students across the Valley held protests Kashmir against the recent clashes between students and police in Pulwama district. Moreover, social media websites were ordered to be restricted even on fixed line networks to restrict the spread of rumors and messages.
