487. Babe Ruth 1924 Single- Signed ONL Heydler Baseball With Full JSA Throughout his incomparable career, the attrib- utes and numbers that defined Babe Ruth made him an American cultural phenomenon who tran- scended sports and geography. The offered auto- graphed baseball originates from an era prior to so many of his noteworthy endeavors, yet during a time in which his meteoric rise to prominence was well underway. Specifically, the lightly toned ONL Heydler sphere (grade “6”) shows mild evidence of han- dling and bears the trademark found on 1920- 1925 examples. In its customary occupancy of the sweet spot, Ruth’s black-ink steel tip fountain pen signature resonates (“7-8”) strength and clari- ty. Just below and to the right of Ruth’s penning, an inscription of “10-17-1924” was executed in an unknown hand. As of that date, the 29-year- old Ruth had amassed six home run titles, four RBI championships and 284 lifetime round-trip- pers. So unfathomable was the latter statistic that no other player to that point had logged even half of Ruth’s total. And his escalating career totals climbed to even more astoundingly dizzying heights. The quotation marks surrounding “Babe” are a common feature on pre-1928 Ruth auto- graphs. The cornerstone to any serious autograph collection, Ruth-signed orbs of this quality will be forever coveted throughout the hobby. Full photo LOA from JSA (cert/sticker #X18513).
