Owned by the same family for 150 years it was the centre of an estate of over 1,000 acres from where the family provided three generations of Rectors to the parish until just after the First World War. Lived in by the family as a private house from 1920s the property was used as a boutique country hotel towards the end of the last century. The house consists of four reception rooms, at least seven bedrooms, four bathrooms, a detached garage and a lovely formal garden. Over the past 11 years the property has been painstakingly and very sympathetically restored to an exceptionally high standard, both internally and throughout the garden, to create the most immaculate and charming family home. The house makes an immediate impression on arrival. The imposing Georgian façade built onto the sides of the original cob curate’s house and barn, which are thought to date back to the 17th century, presents a main house with two wings that create a small sheltered courtyard at the rear. The gravel driveway is flanked at its entrance by granite pillars and wooden electric gates. The entrance to the hallway is one of the reasons for its historic importance being placed on the side of the house and has a fabulous period fan light above the front door. The entrance hallway leads through to the staircase hallway. Off the entrance hallway is a cloakroom and a sitting room which has a lovely, cosy feel with a wood burner. This room is the original barn that predates the Georgian Old Rectory. Also off the hallway is the drawing room which has a working fireplace with a lovely wooden moulded surround and full-length sash windows. The drawing room is particularly impressive and both this room and the dining room next door enjoy magnificent Georgian proportions and high ceilings. The dining room has an open fireplace with a marble surround. At the end of the staircase hallway is the kitchen/breakfast room which has a large central island with a slate work surface and a four-door, oil-fired Aga.
