With the closing of Armtrong & Richardson at Thanjai I realize we are quite fortunate with a decent number of restaurants in OOS, including a good number of Asian restaurants. That said, we were pretty keen to try this new South Indian restaurant that someone had recommended to us. And although Thanjai (Third Avenue, just next to the Canada Post) is an Indian restaurant, the food is quite distinct from the other two Indian restaurants in the Glebe, Taj Mahal and Light of India. Thanjai is the sister restaurant of a Montreal restaurant started by South Indian couple Geetha and Kumaresan Muthukrishnan, and offers traditional South Indian fare. One of the signature dishes of this region is the Dosa, a crepe-like pancake made from fermented batter. Thanjai has over 20 different Dosas listed on their menu, as well as a wide range of other choices. Although we’ve only been able to go a couple times so far, Thanjai is an instant favourite and I’m sure we’ll be making the trek PHOTO BY BRENDAN MCCOY across the bridge for lunch or dinner regularly in the future.
