It is concerne w th specimens collecte on Los Negros Islan d of the A miralty group . The Admiralty Islands are located between 1 0 30’ and 3 ° 1 0 ’ 0 0 d and 1 46 and 1 48 d South Latitu e East Longitu e , being the most Mel n i I d was d d northerly of the a es on slan s . This group iscovere in 1 6 1 6 S and and M L os by chouten Lemaire consists of anus , Negros , LOS Sauwai Reyes , Pak , Naura , Rambutyo, Baluan , , Lou , Tong , and l"1 w other small islands . All these islands are small except anus hich has an area of more than seven hundred square miles and has moun d the tains that rise to a height of over three thousan feet . Los Negros , end next largest island of this group , forms an arc around the eastern M two se arated w of anus ; the being by a narro channel . Within this is §eeadl er has d arc a good harbor , the , which epths ranging up to 1 2 0 L feet . The central part of os Negros was made into the large Momote airfield which was an important base in General D ouglas ’ MarArthur s campaign to win back the Philippine Islands and move on to Japan . The Admiralties lies about 2 00 miles north and east of New and 2 60 w New New Guinea miles est of Ireland . Hanover Island is between New Ireland and the Admiralties on an arc which extends d w through these Islan s south ard to the Solomon Islands .
