Find us on: facebook 3 www.hrcc.org.au On 25th July 2021 there was a celebration held at Lowood to commemorate the 61st anniversary 1960 Australian Grand Prix. There were HRCC members there displaying their cars. Garry Saunderson reports on the event - Well, the car show went off without a problem. There were 5 cars that were part of the HRCC display. Of particular interest to all was one of the cars that actually took part in the 1960 AGP race. The car is a Lotus 11 owned by Richard Harris and driven in the 1960 race by Charlie Whatmore. Whatmore won its class on the day. Check out the photos of the car now and how it looked back in 1960. Unfortunately, the Covid pandemic prevented more cars from appearing, particularly those coming from NSW. The other cars attending were ▪ A replica D Type Jag ▪ My log booked 105E Anglia half restored. Raced by Bill Lubke at Lowood. I am a Member of the Qld Historic Touring Car Assoc. and the HRCC. Check out the before and after pics of the Anglia. Car number 73. ▪ Graham Palmers MGBGT. ▪ Graeme Hodges 105E Anglia log booked Group “U” Sports Sedan. ▪ John Tupicoff brought his Group Nc log booked 2002 BMW. Unfortunately, there were other car owners or drivers with Lowood race history who were not able to attend Trevor Norris who raced at Lowood back in the 60s was not able to attend so we missed seeing his SV1 Valiant. Trevor raced a FJ Holden at Lowood. Spencer, who owns 2 Notas. One being my old car Nota 5. Find us on:facebook 4 www.hrcc.org.au Garth Llewellyn raced a Triumph at Lowood. Also missing was Bill Lubke, Brian Michelmore and Gordon Clough. Bill raced the Anglia I am restoring, Brian raced a Mk2 Zephy, 1964 GT two door Cortina and a Lotus Cortina and Gordon raced a FE , FJ and then a EH Holden before going to Speedway. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Committee of the Lions Club of Lowood for organising the event. With the Corona pandemic around we did not know if it was going to go ahead right up until the Saturday afternoon before the show.
