16 May 2019 HKTTA – Hang Seng Partnership Reinforces Hong Kong’s Profile as Table Tennis Powerhouse Hang Seng Table Tennis Academy recognises up-and-coming young talent Seamaster 2019 ITTF World Tour – Hang Seng Hong Kong Open awarded ‘M’ Mark status A joint event for the Hang Seng Table Tennis Academy (HSTTA) Graduation Ceremony and the Seamaster 2019 ITTF World Tour - Hang Seng Hong Kong Open Launch Ceremony was held today at the Penthouse of Hang Seng Bank Headquarters. Yeung Tak-Keung, Commissioner for Sports of Home Affairs Bureau, Government of HKSAR; Louisa Cheang, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank; and Tony Yue, Chairman of Hong Kong Table Tennis Association (HKTTA), officiated at the event. Hong Kong Table Tennis Team members – including Wong Chun-ting, Ho Kwan-kit, Doo Hoi-kem and Lee Ho-ching – also attended the event to show their support and to offer encouragement to the latest group of HSTTA graduates. Hang Seng announces HK$13m in continuing support for HSTTA 2019 - 2021 At the HSTTA Graduation Ceremony, Hang Seng announced its provision of HK$13 million in continuing support for HSTTA for the period 2019 – 2021. “The extension of our support for Hang Seng Table Tennis Academy for another three years reflects our commitment to encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in sports and to providing high-quality training for promising table tennis talent,” Louisa Cheang said. “We are delighted to see the hard work and achievements of many of Hong Kong’s rising table tennis stars being recognised at today’s ceremony. The determination and perseverance they have developed through their training are key attributes for success in all aspects of life. We congratulate all the awardees and look forward to seeing them reach greater heights.” Tony Yue said: “Hang Seng Bank’s support has been integral to the sustained growth and development of table tennis in Hong Kong. Su Zhi and Ng Wing-lam were awarded Best Male Player and Best Female Player respectively. Pui Ching Primary School received the Most Supportive School Award for a second consecutive year, with 138 of its students participating in HSTTA’s Badges Scheme. Young players Lo Ka-kit and Tiffany Lam represented the graduates to receive autographed Hong Kong Team jerseys from Wong Chun-Ting and Doo Hoi-Kem. Yeung Tak-Keung helps kick off new ‘M’ Mark event Today’s event also served as the launch ceremony for the Seamaster 2019 ITTF World Tour – Hang Seng Hong Kong Open, with HKTTA expressing its appreciation for Hang Seng’s continued support as title sponsor. The Open was recently awarded ‘M’ Mark status, denoting it as a major sports event in Hong Kong. Yeung Tak-Keung, Louisa Cheang and Tony Yue officially kicked off the event by swinging a table tennis bat. They wished the members of the Hong Kong Table Tennis Team great success in the upcoming Open and in their attempt to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Hong Kong team set to take on international players The Seamaster 2019 ITTF World Tour – Hang Seng Hong Kong Open will be held from 4 to 9 June 2019 at Queen Elizabeth Stadium. With prize money totalling US$175,000 (HK$1.37m), the event has attracted more than 300 entries this year. A squad of 12 male and 12 female players will represent Hong Kong, including 2015 and 2017 World Championships bronze medallists and 2018 ITTF World Tour Final Mixed Doubles winners Wong Chun-ting and Doo Hoi-kem. The Hong Kong Team will be aiming to put in a strong performance to earn sufficient world ranking points to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
