New York Times Partnership Lecture The Disposable American: Layoffs and their Consequences Louis Uchitelle Economics writer, New York Times Thursday, 22 March NOON 238 HRCB Copies of the Disposable Louis Uchitelle has written on a wide range of subjects, including job and labor issues, national and American will be available for international economic trends, corporate and labor economics, administration economic policies, and the purchase from BYU Bookstore Federal Reserve System. Most recently, Uchitelle has reported on the Asian crisis and its global economic consequences, on numerous aspects of the American economy, as well as workforce trends. He currently writes “Economic View,’’ a column that appears on Sundays. Since joining the Times in 1980, Uchitelle has reported from Mexico, France, Russia, and the Ukraine. He was previously with the Associated Press, where he had been a reporter, editor, foreign correspondent in Latin America, and news executive. Hs reporting took him to Buenos Aires, Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile, as well as San Juan, Puerto Rico, with responsibility for the Caribbean. He played a lead role in AP’s coverage of the U.S. military intervention in the Dominican Republic. Uchitelle began his journalism career as a general assignment reporter on the Mount Vernon, NY Daily Argus. For many years, he taught news and feature writing at Columbia University, a course he started in 1976. He grew up in Great Neck, NY, and received a BA from the University of Michigan.
