Institutes consist of laboratories, which are specialized for individual research fields. Institutes beside the scientific- research work also care for individual study programmes at the university and vocational professional study programmes and in that way they most effectively carry over recognition from the research to the pedagogical work. Above all, students in higher grades are often involved in researches in the laboratories. In such, with practical work on the real problems, they strengthen theoretical knowledge, and at the same time they gain the experience and strengthen the engineering intuitive knowledge, which is so important for a creative engineer and researcher. Our graduates, because of previously mentioned, are valued and sought for. In 2008, we have begun to carry out the second year of Bologna study programme. Just so, we have prepared the programmes of the second Bologna cycle, which we will begin to carry out in 2010/11 school year, and accredited the third Bologna cycle, which we will begin to carry out in 2009/10. We hope that the new generations of engineers will also achieve a high level of knowledge. We will strive to include the students, under the Bologna study programme, as soon as possible into the research work as well, and support their creativity and self motivation. Difficulties related to finances are still present, yet the current annual report proves that our faculty is very involved in research and developing projects both nationally and internationally. Achievements of our scientific-research work are presented at the international scientific conferences and in the most prestigious scientific journals. We have introduced the new model of keeping the accounts of received funds at the faculty and consequently opened the possibility for the most successful groups, laboratories and individuals to carry out their desires and ambitions. Dean Prof. Dr. Igor Tičar Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science FW – 5 STUDY PROGRAMMES, OPTIONS AND EMPHASIS Undergraduate studies The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science offers two separate types of study programmes, each leading to a different type of degree; academic and professional. Seven study programmes with several options are offered towards the academic degrees and three study programmes towards the professional degrees. The academic-degree study programmes in: Electrical Engineering includes the following options: Automation and Robotics, Electronics and Power Engineering. Computer Science and Information Technologies
