MLA’s and Government Committees Government committees – a number of committees exist to help government do its job effectively Agenda and Priorities Committee – coordinates the long‐range, high level, strategic activities of government. It reviews major policy decisions that are required. Treasury Board – is a legislated committee. Its role as set out in the Financial Administration Act, is to • Formulate general management policies relating to the business and affairs of Crown and Provincial agencies, and • Perform any act is considers necessary to ensure that those policies are carried out Cabinet Policy Committees – are integral parts of the government decisions making process. Their role s and responsibilities include the following: • Review and make recommendations on policies, programs and legislation, • Hear public and private submissions pertaining to their areas • Monitor existing programs, services and legislation and • Review the budgetary implications of each proposal as well as implementation and communications strategies There are five Cabinet Policy Committees focusing on different strategic areas: • Community services • Economy • Health • Public safety and services • Resources and the environment Each MLA is identified by party, returning or new, and if they are on a committee 1 Ady, Hon.
