Carter has worked in a variety of production roles since joining THIRTEEN in 2005, most recently serving as supervising producer on Secrets of the Dead and American Epic. In this position, she will oversee the development, production, promotion, delivery and distribution of the award-winning PBS documentary series that explores iconic historical moments while debunking long-held myths and shining new light on past events and forgotten mysteries. “I’ve worked with Stephanie over the past 10 years, where she has proven to be a talented and indispensable producer on a variety of science and documentary projects for THIRTEEN’s National Programming unit,” said Stephen Segaller, Vice President of Programming for WNET. “She has been an anchor for the Secrets of the Dead series, steadily taking on more editorial and budgetary responsibility for the PBS favorite, making her a natural choice for this position. I’m eager to see what new mysteries we will uncover under Stephanie’s leadership.” Carter’s previous projects for WNET include Finding Your Roots (Seasons 1 & 2) ; The Story of the Jews with Simon Schama; The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., which has been recognized with an Emmy, Peabody and DuPont Award; Civilization with Niall Ferguson ; Black in Latin America; Faces of America; The Human Spark with Alan Alda ; The Ascent of Money , which has been recognized with an International Emmy Award; Oprah’s Roots ; Mysterious Human Heart , which has been recognized with an Emmy Award; Rolling; African American Lives 2; and Looking for Lincoln . As one of PBS’s ongoing limited primetime series , Secrets of the Dead is a perennial favorite among viewers, routinely ranking among the 10 most-watched series on public television. Currently in its 16th season, Secrets of the Dead continues its unique brand of archaeological sleuthing and employing advances in investigative techniques, forensic science and historical scholarship to offer new evidence about forgotten mysteries. Secrets of the Dead has received 10 CINE Golden Eagle Awards and six Emmy nominations, among numerous other awards. Carter holds an M.A. from the Draper Program in Interdisciplinary Studies and Social Thought in the Humanities at New York University’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and a B.A. from Syracuse University’s S.I.
