à Did we live more dangerously in 1976? No PFD’s, no gloves, no sidebar carpet, no full trap harnesses - this couple is asking for trouble! Ä There’s not much you can say about this ad - but NICE HAIR! à The HOTLINE has a long history of photo contests - the May 1976 winner is shown here. The details of the latest version are in this issue. Á How cool is this? A trailer that comes packed in its own sailbox! Your UPS man wanted a hernia belt for Christmas in 1976. 6 JUL / AUG 2006 Á The travelling Shearer family of Salt Lake City was profiled in the Jul/ Aug ‘86 HOTLINE. How did they get the mast to stand up by itself? If you like those van graphics, Hobie dealer Midwest Sailing still has a set available. Give Michael Ehnis a call at 734.426.4155 Ä A frightening event in Hobie History – Sandy Banks, one of the original Hobie Catters, suffers a stroke. Fortunately, Sandy made a full recovery and by 1992, was running the races at the Nationals again. à Distance racing in Hobie 16’s was still the rage 20 years ago. The Hog’s Breath 1000 went up the Gulf coast of Florida and attracted teams from all over the world. 1996 The big event in August of 1996 was the Summer Olympic Games. The yachting venue was Savannah, GA. (A copy of the ticket to the yachting medal ceremony is shown at the far right.)
