K .T. E. Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji (An Autonomous Institute) Department of Textiles M. Tech. (Technical Textiles) Semester – I Differences in the University and Autonomy syllabus-structure Shivaji University Autonomy Subject Name Remarks/ Major changes in Syllabus Subject Name First Year I semester Manufacture of Fabric structure and Some part of the basic fabric production methods Fabrics for Engineering are replaced with engineering aspects of fabric Technical Textiles structure. The theories proposed by the various authors are also included. Braided and 3D fabrics are also included in this proposed syllabus for autonomous. Industrial Industrial Applications of The most demanding part of industrial textiles is Applications of Textiles coating and lamination. This is included. Phase Textiles change materials, shape memory polymers and nano fibres are also proposed for study since these are the new developments for the technical textiles. Nanotechnology in Theory of Textile Theory of Textile Structures has detailed study of Textiles Structures fibre and yarn structure and its impact on yarn and fabric properties. This is very important subject for the product development and fabric engineering. Hence is it included in first semester and replaced Nanotechnology subject. ELECTIVE-I : ELECTIVE-I : 1.Agro and In university structure, number of electives was 1.Textiles for Geotech limited to only two. But, in autonomy structure, Protection 2. Recycling of Technical four subjects will be available for students to 2. Textiles for textiles choose. The more relevant subjects such as agro & sports application 3. Smart Materials and geotech, Recycling of technical textiles, smart Textiles textiles etc.are also introduced in the electives of 4.High Performance Fibres autonomy structure Advanced Elective –II In university syllabus, there was no concept of Computer 1. Advanced Computer elective –II, and students were required to study Applications In Programming and Advanced Computer Applications In Textiles Textiles Applications subject compulsorily. However, in autonomy 2. Medical Textiles structure, more options are available for students in 3. Shape Memory elective –II. In elective –II also, earlier important Polymers & Phase subjects such as comp. programming and technical Changeing Materials textiles are retained. 4. Automotive Textiles 5. Computer Aided Fabric Manufacturing Seminar-I Mini Project -I Mini project concept is introduced in autonomy structure and has replaced earlier seminar. Mini project imparts more exposure to the experimental work and students will have good knowledge of 5 D. K .T. E. Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji (An Autonomous Institute) Department of Textiles conducting experiments. Earlier seminar was giving only theoretical exposure to students. First Year II semester Plasma Textile Composites Textile composite market is rapidly growing and Technology for hence knowledge of fibre reinforced composite is a Textiles must even for further education and research. Hence Plasma subject is replaced. Medical Textiles Surface Treatment of The fabric surface can be modified as per the end Textiles for Technical use. Surface treatments market is growing. The Applications functional finishes based on nano technology, plasma & coating, Lamination is also proposed in this syllabus. Statistics For Design of Experiments & As statistical techniques knowledge is essential for Textile Mill Statistical Applications in the students to analyse the data obtained for Management Textiles experiments, this subject is retained in autonomy structure also. Fibre Reinforced ELECTIVE-III : Knowledge on the Project preparation, appraisal & Composites 1.Advanced Textile implementation are the key factors for the Material Engineering successful of any new venture. The project 2. Science and Technology fundamental studies on the costing are also added. of Nano Materials in This subject is proposed in Elective-III. The other Textiles three subjects are also included in the elective list. 3. Stand up and Start up in In the place of Fibre Reinforced Composites Technical Textiles subject Elective –III group is introduced. Therefore, 4. Project Preparation, students will have more subjects to choose. Appraisal & Implementation Elective-II Elective –IV Earlier elective –II was having only two subjects. 1. Nonwoven Technology However, in autonomy structure, elective –IV is 1. Textiles for 2. Textile For Protection introduced with more subject. Therefore, students Automobile 3. Speciality Fabrics will have more subjects to choose as per their Engineering Manufacturing choice. 1. Intelligent 4. Testing and Analysis Textiles & of industrial Textiles Clothing 5. .Environment Aspects in Technical Textiles Seminar-II Mini Project -II Mini project concept is introduced in autonomy structure and has replaced earlier seminar. Mini project imparts more exposure to the experimental work and students will have good knowledge of conducting experiments. Earlier seminar was giving only theoretical exposure to students. Second Year Semester-I Seminar-III --------------------- Seminar-III is discarded from the autonomy structure as students will be undertaking literature 6 D. K .T. E. Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji (An Autonomous Institute) Department of Textiles review and presentation as part of dissertation phase-I Dissertation Dissertation Phase 1 Dissertation is retained in autonomy structure also. However, evaluation of progress of work will be done by external examiner, provision of which was not in the university syllabus. Second Year Semester-II Seminar-IV ------------------------ Seminar-IV is discarded from the autonomy structure as students will be undertaking dissertation presentation as part of dissertation phase-I Dissertation Dissertation Phase 2 Dissertation is retained in autonomy structure also as earlier dissertation and new dissertation phase – II are related to experimental work of project, project completion and final evaluation 7 D.
