Nepal Red Cross Society #122 7/6/2020 NRCS Situation Report : ‘’COVID-19’’ Preparedness and Response Nepal MOHP website; https://covid19.mohp.gov.np/#/ As of 5th June 2020, the global death is 528204(5195 new deaths) with Total samples tested: 255728 11125245 (203836new cases) being infected and more than 50,00000 recovered from COVID-19 pandemic. Tested negative: 239764 Ministry of Health and Population confirmed 180 new COVID-19 cases, Tested positive: 15964 with this the total number of confirmed case reached to 15964 and total death count has reached 35 as of 6th July 2020. Recovered 6811 Ministry of Health and Population, Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC), is leading the responsewith the support of UN agencies and many Deaths: 35 other organizations.Nepal Red Cross Society(NRCS) is also the part of it, Total no. of people in quarantine 29215 with the support of movement partners and government agencies at all levels NRCS is responding to the current situation.NRCS emergency operation Centre (EOC) was activated on 6th of February 2020 and 122 Total no of people in isolation 91188 SITREPS released with the activities held in 77 District chapters of Red Cross.Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS), supported by Red Cross and Red Crecent (RCRC) Movement and non-Movement partners bears unique responsibilities and added value when it comes to responding to any emergencies. Meanwhile, NRCS is supporting the Government in COVID-19 response and preparedness through various sectoral activities being implemented through its local branches to meet the needs of community in this current pandemic Highlights: Champion Enrolls as Frontliners for COVID-19 Response Rupa KC- 34 years old, residing in Krishna tole ward no. 9, a slum area of Pokhara Metro is a champion(Champions are representatives of their wider communities, willing to work as volunteers and play a key role in disseminating program messages) of the SURE program representing the landless group. Skills and trainings provided by Red Cross have enabled her to work as a frontline responder in this difficult situation of COVID-19. She has always been eager to transfer her knowledge to her community to sensitize them on the potential risk and mitigating measures. Even during the period of lockdown, she is actively involved in awareness- raising activities through the distribution of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, posting COVID-19 related information on social-medias, door to door visit for sharing the proper handwashing technique, use of sanitizer, mask, and gloves. Her role has been significant in terms of coordination for managing the support for the most vulnerable group in the community. Through her coordination with ward offices, Metro city, Province level, Tole Sudhar Samiti, the team has been able to manage food and Non Food Items (NFI) support to the vulnerable group like daily wage labor, people living with disabilities, single women and the neediest people. She mentions."51 packages food item was supported by Pokhara Metro, 28 packages by Shiva Roshanee Organization, 30 packages by Mr. Bindu Kumar Parajuli (a social worker), 14 packages by Sahara Club, 25 Packages from Shanti Dawadi (a social worker), 35 packages from Pokhara College of Management, 35 packages from Prabha Koirala (a member of provincial parliament). Similarly, Deputy Mayor provided some packages of food items targeting only to the pregnant women. In this way, the people of my community are coming together and helping each other during the current situation. I am very much happy to be part of it.” "I am very delighted and indebted to Red Cross Society for providing me skills, capacities, confidence, and companionship. I feel happy that at least little effort from our side has helped to ease the livelihood of most vulnerable people of the community during this difficult time". Rolpa Supported 60m P-form, 5-bottles sanitizer of 100 ml, and 200 surgical masks to Pariwartan rural municipality. 2 set PPEs supported to Rolpa Eye Centre. Radio program continuation. Lalitpur 6 Hand washing Stations installed. RC volunteers and Sub Chapters are continuing the hand washing practice session. Ward office has been taking care of hand washing stations and filling water in coordination with community as well. In this period total 135 people are insured against COVID-19 who are Red Cross Volunteers and champions 4 people participated from Lalitpur DC/SURE in virtual psychosocial training and DC decided to mobilize 2 Red Cross Volunteers for psychosocial support at Balkumari holding Centre (Mr. Dibesh Karki and Ms Pabitra Basnet ) SURE staffs are engaging in field visit and engaged with municipality, financial, participating in diffident virtual meeting and training organized by NHQs, documentation/data collection and analysis for ward selection process, programme sharing to Municipality office and District Coordination Committee meeting was conducted. Seven champions are mobilized for COVID -19 response. Key role of them is door to door visit, IEC distribution and hand washing demonstration at community to the people. 45 champion are mobilized with 200NPR top-up facilities for social media and virtual messages dissemination to their social group and family. 504 pints blood collected. In this reporting period, altogether 2128 people were benefited through door to door visit, peer to peer communication, telephonic conversation, messages group, and social media etc. NRCS Sub chapter volunteers and SURE Champions have close coordination with ward offices for holding Centre \Quarantine Management and relief distribution for poor and daily wages worker.
