Ambassador Alistair MacDonald together with Deputy Ambassador Anita Conjin of Royal Netherlands Embassy and Deputy Ambassador Colin Crorkin of British Embassy visited the armed conflict-affected areas in Regions XII and ARMM from October 9 - 10, 2008. The group was joined by officials of World Food Programme: Mr. Alghassim Wurie, Deputy Country Director and Ms. Patricia Facultad, Public Information Officer. This activity was participated by RDCC XII Officials The European Union will be extending 7 Million Euros worth of assistance to IDPs, Four Million Euros (P270.0 Million) is intended for humanitarian assistance while 3 Million Euros (P200 Million) is intended for the long term rehabilitation of the conflict-affected areas The NDCC thru OCD Region X turned over a total of Php425,000.00 worth of financial assistance to the claimants/beneficiaries of dead and injured victims of Kolambugan and Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte UN Agencies, and NGOs/INGOs, Humanitarian partners/agencies are advised to coordinate all actions with the following OCDRCs Directors who were designated as principal coordinator for a more effective delivery of assistance and information/data management : Regional Centers OCDRC Director Contact Nos. Armando Duque (064) 4250330, (0917) 504-6233 The ARMM Regional Governor issued the Executive Order No. 013 to enjoin all NGOs - local, national and international operating in ARMM to register and closely coordinate with duly authorized agencies of ARMM before the disposition of their programs and services PNP-PRO XII facilitated the creation of an Inter-Agency Task Force MAKIMA (in Sarangani Province) and PALMA-P in North Cotabato Province to oversee and coordinate planning efforts, especially the tactical operations, legal offensives and rehabilitation aspects in the Municipalities of Maasim, Kiamba and Maitum, Sarangani and municipalities of Pigcawayan, Aleosan, Libungan, Midsayap, Alamada, and Pikit , North Cotabato 2 PIA XII established an Information Command Center in the cities of Kidapawan, Cotabato and General Santos in collaboration with PNP, AFP, OCD, DSWD, DILG, DOH and LGUs of Region XII to provide the public better understanding and appreciation on the current issues and concerns affecting South Central Mindanao through accurate, relevant and timely information A. Responses per Cluster Food and Non-Food Items (NFIs) • The DSWD supported by DSWD-ARMM, DepEd, PNRC, WFP, Save the Children, MERN and ICRC provided funds for the local purchase of emergency relief items and construction materials for bunkhouses • Provided supplemental feeding to more than 1,000 children from 0-6 yrs. old, pregnant and lactating mothers in evacuation centers in Kolambugan, Munai and Tankal in Lanao del Norte • Provided compact food and micronutrients tablets and Vitamin A supplementation • Implemented feeding program for school children. The UNICEF’s month-long Experimental Feeding Program has started in the evacuation centers in Datu Piang, Maguindanao on October 20, 2008 Health, Nutrition, Psychosocial and WASH • The DOH together with other agencies involved such as: DOH-ARMM, LGUs, UNICEF, WHO, ICRC, PNRC and OXFAM, conducted the following interventions: intensified health education campaign on preventive control of communicable diseases; mass measles immunization; referral system of acute cases; diseases surveillance for early detection of cases/diseases; and pre-natal and deliveries • More than 1,000 children (0-5 yrs. old) were placed under the malnutrition program • Constructed toilets in all evacuation centers in Munai and Tangkal, Lanao del Norte • Conducted chlorination and water sampling of water sources, distributed water containers and jerry cans, and distributed sodium hypochlorite and hygiene kits • Intensified health education campaign on WASH and waste management • Conducted stress debriefing of evacuees and aid workers • Mobilized LGUs and parents for the feeding of school children such as demonstration preparation of malunggay powder, massive feeding program and conduct of medical mission • CFSI will be conducting solid waste management campaign in selected areas of coverage in coordination with IPHO Maguindanao and local government units • Immediate water treatment will be carried out by Sanitary Inspector of Datu Piang • Treatment of other water sources existing in the area and installation of additional facilities in areas recommended based on the number of IDPs and morbidity records done during the WASH cluster meeting Emergency Shelter • Status of bunkhouses construction in Lanao del Norte by DPWH 1st and 2 nd Engineering Districts • Bgy Kulasihan, Kolambugan - One unit – 100% completed as of 27 October 2008 • The 1st and 4th additional are both 100% completed and the 2 nd and 3 rd additional are 94% completed (ongoing) as of 27 October 2008 5 Kauswagan One unit of bunkhouse in Kauswagan is 100% completed as of 27 Oct 2008 Munai Two units with 32 rooms and 12 seaters toilet - 100% completed as of 20 Oct 2008 Tangkal Three units of bunkhouses 32 rooms and 12 seaters toilet – 60% completed as of 20 Oct 2008. Construction is ongoing Poona Piagapo 2 units with 32 rooms and 12-seaters toilet – 50 % completed as of 20 Oct 2008.
