SUMMARY • There are 8,926 people living in Southcote 22.7% of these are children aged 0 to 15 and 17.2% are older people aged 65 and over. The non-white British population accounts for 25.7% of the total population. 83% of the Southcote population were born in the UK. This is more than the average of Reading. • Out of the 16 wards in Reading, Southcote is the seventh most deprived ward. 22.1% of children in Southcote are at risk of living in poverty, compared with 18.7% across Reading. • In Southcote 12.9% of the working age population claim benefits compared with 9.6% in Reading. 63.6% of the population of Southcote who are aged 16 to 74 years are in employment. This is lower than the average in Reading.
