REPORT ON GANDHI SMRITI SEMINAR DAY/DATE : Thursday, 18 January 2018 VENUE : Gandhi Smriti, Birla House ATTENDED BY : Students of Classes VI – VIII “Satyagraha is a relentless search for truth and a determination to search truth” To propagate the life, mission and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi, a group of students from Classes VI – VIII paid a visit to Gandhi Smriti, Birla House, in collaboration with the Darshan Samiti, on Thursday, 18 January 2018. This auspicious day marks the completion of 70 years of the final fast of Mahatma Gandhi. It is the sacred place where Mahatma Gandhi's epic Life ended on 30 January 1948. The hallowed house treasures many memories of the last 144 days of his life.An interactive session was conducted inside the premises where eminent scholars and historians enlightened the students about the ideals and facts about Gandhiji. A story telling session ‘Dastan Goi’(Art of Story Telling in Urdu) gave an insight into the life of Gandhi.Students participated in the interactive sessions very enthusiastically and were empowered with the values of our Father of the Nation. The ITLeens got the opportunity to visit the rooms where Mahatma Gandhi lived and the prayer ground where he held a mass congregation every evening. It was here where assassin’s bullets felled Gandhiji. The building and the landscape have been preserved as they were in those days. The students were also taken to the Visual Museum which displayed the photographs, sculptures, paintings, frescos, inscriptions on rocks and relics pertaining to the years Mahatma Gandhi spent here. The meagre personal effects of Gandhiji too are carefully preserved. The Martyr’s Column was the place where the Father of the Nation was assassinated, commemorating the Martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi as the embodiment of all the sufferings and sacrifices that characterized the long struggle for India's Freedom. The visit served the purpose to educate the youth and everyone on the ideals of ‘Bapu’. ‘Punah Gandhi’, a booklet that chronicled Gandhi’s statement in the Prayer Meeting, was distributed among the students. The ITLeens returned bringing with them cherished memories and a rich treasure of knowledge which will definitely help to become better human beings. .
