Finished in 2010, the large landscape package included plazas, gardens, volleyball courts and other active and passive recreational areas. Page 4 Eisler LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION • CONSULTATION • SITE WORK • LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE Kraus Campo at the Posner Center In 2004, Eisler Landscapes took on the challenge Carnegie Mellon University of installing a green roof designed by Michael 500 Forbes Avenue Van Valkenburgh Associates at CMU’s Posner Center. working with Mascaro Construction the Pittsburgh, PA 15213 general contractor, the green roof was installed over a rare book archive. Intense layout work commenced in order to create naturalistic contours on a flat roof. Grading stakes were used to accurately create the designed contours. Grading quickly became the largest part of the project. Two art installations were included in the project-the French Curve to honor Posner, and a quote from the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. Simple mass plantings of barberries, azaleas, boxwood, ilex and ivy create a colorful setting for the art works. Plantings 201 Wood St included two Frontier Elms, six Dura Heat River Birch, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 Climbing Hydrangeas, Liriope and Daffodils. Page 6 Eisler LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION • CONSULTATION • SITE WORK • LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE Chatham University-Main Campus Having enjoyed an ongoing relationship with Chatham University Chatham University since the mid 1990’s, Eisler 1 Woodland Road, Landscapes has had the opportunity to work on many projects on the historic Olmsted-designed Pittsburgh, PA 15232 campus. Eisler crews restored the beloved duck pond, including planting lilies and re-establishing historic paths around the pond. They participated in the award-winning restoration of the Gate House, an effort lead by Sota Construction, by re-grading the surrounding landscape, building stacked stone walls and installing fresh foundation and decorative plantings. Other work on campus included dealing with steep terrain, planting vegetative screens, laying brick donor walks, planting trees and installing new planting beds. Lawrence Convention Center Green Roof Located in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, David L. Lawrence the David L. Lawrence Convention Center was Convention Center the first “green” convention center in the world and was awarded the Gold LEED® certification by 1000 Ft. Duquesne Blvd., the US Green Building Council. With the addition of the green roof completed by Eisler Landscapes Pittsburgh, PA 15222 and Cuddy Roofing in 2011, this landmark building continues to be an inspiration for the future of building in our region and beyond. The roof plantings include many types of sedum and meadow plants. Drip irrigation lines were installed for plant establishment and can be used for maintenance, if needed. Eisler was honored to be involved in improving this great regional amenity. Page 9 Eisler LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION • CONSULTATION • SITE WORK • LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE Allegheny County Office Building Green Roof In 2009, Eisler Landscapes, in collaboration with Civil and Allegheny County Environmental Consultants, Inc., IDC Architects and Cuddy 4735 Butler Street Roofing, was selected to create a series of educational demonstration green roofs for the Allegheny County Office Pittsburgh, PA 15201 Building. Eisler Landscapes was responsible for the site analysis, landscape design and final master plan, as well as the installation and maintenance of the green roof. The project consisted of four separate types of green roofs; intensive, semi-intensive, extensive and an extensive tray system. The placement and orientation of these systems was based on the structural limitations of the building and existing roof structure. Existing environmental conditions such as sun exposure, wind, location and building facilities were also considered. Page 10 Eisler LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION • CONSULTATION • SITE WORK • LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE Doherty Hall Overlooking the Gates Science Center, the green Carnegie Mellon University roof installed on Doherty Hall in was installed in 2006. 500 Forbes Avenue It included many native plants and custom details. Eisler’s craftsmen created a custom copper splash Pittsburgh, PA 15213 block and fabricated the custom art piece. Standstone block edging and random bluestone paving were also installed to provide access to the roof for students and faculty. Plantings were selected for their hardiness and adapatibility for green roofs. Page 11 Eisler LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION • CONSULTATION • SITE WORK • LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE Soldiers & Sailors Soldiers & Sailors 4141 Fifth Ave Pittsburgh, PA 15213 In 2013, Eisler Landscapes teamed up with Cuddy Roofing to update the roof on the Soldiers and Sailors building in Oakland. Eisler Landscapes installed over 8,000 sf of green roof and 336 pathway pavers. Green roofs double the lifespan of flat roofs and provide additional building insullation as well as mitigating rain water runoff.
