Shonena promises OATF fireworks with Chinese champion Start// 17 July 2019 – Windhoek – When WBO Africa Welterweight champion, Mikka Shonena goes to- to-toe with WBO Asia Pacific Welterweight champion Youli Dong during the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair proceedings, it will be fireworks, with the ‘Silent Assassin’ saying we will reome all wrinkles on his opponent during a press conference held in the capital today. Boxing enthusiasts and die-hard attendants of the OATF are in for a treat during this year’s annual trade show with the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy packing the festival’s program with 10 exciting bouts of ‘The Battle: Namibia vs China’ on 24 August. For the Namibian, it will be all blood and sweat as he looks forwards to improve his ranking from the fifth spot he currently seats of the WBO boxing hierarchy. The Chinese will also be looking forward to improve his ranking from the 15 spot he currently sits, with both boxers obviously having an eye on a title shot in the near future. “Come on 24 August, I don’t want to say much but I know that on that night, I am going to iron this boy. So come out and support us,” said a determined Shonena. MTC Corporate Affairs Manager John Ekongo called on boxing fanatics to come out in the numbers, saying while it is the responsibility of corporates to plough back into the community, it is also time the populace shows us to support their own. “It is deliberate from MTC to dedicate a budget towards sport development as part of our CSI efforts. Often times we are met with the demands from the community to take boxing to the regions and hence the opportunity to take this event to the Ongwediva trade fair. I would thus like to call on other corporates to come on board and support this great event,” said Ekongo. Sport minister Erastus Uutoni, who has in the past echoed the sentiments of decentralizing sport activities into the regions applauded the boxing stable and sponsors MTC for heeding into his call and that of the nation. “It has been my call that we need to expose our regions, so thank you MTC for taking boxing out of the cities. This exposes the sport and it is also a business opportunity. Sport is a business, and we should start sensitizing the public to view it as such. Sport is our strength and it is time we sensitize our people to see it as such,” said Uutoni. The undercuts will feature a four rounds lightweight bout with Paulus Amavila taking on Immanuel Jason, and Mateus ‘The Beast’ Heita rubbing gloves with Paulus Aikela in a Superbantam weight card. Filipus Nghitumbwa is yet to draw an opponent in a 6 rounds Superbantam weight bout while Edison Nghipondoka will go toe-to-toe with Malawian Chikondi Makaya in a junior middleweight stretch. Emmanuel Mungadjela will see Simon Shafodino in an 8-rounds welterweight bout while Sebastian Nathaniel will see if he can get past Niikoti Johannes. In Junior Welterweight International, decorated starlet Harry Simon Junior will be up against Philip Musariri from Zimbambwe, who is dubbed to be a tough opponent. They will be followed a Welterweight six-rounds affair between Joseph Bernard and Dominicus Weyulu, while Paulinus Paulus will take on Future Maziya from Zimbambwe in a Middleweight International affair just before the main bout. General tickets go for N$100, and a table of ten will cost N$10 000. End// Issued by: Corporate Affairs Department .
