Dave stated that he would see what he could arrange. Joseph, K9RFZ, gave an update on the Hamfest preparations. He stated that Kermit Carlson, W9XA, the Central Division Director, would not be able to attend the Hamfest because of a mandatory ARRL Director’s meeting that weekend. He added that arrangements had been made for Riley Hollingsworth, K4ZDH, the new leader of the development of the ARRLs new Volunteer Monitors program. Ri- ley was scheduled to speak at the Goshen club earlier in the week of the Hamfest. The Goshen date was moved to later in the week to that Riley could be in Fort Wayne for the weekend. ACARTS agreed to share the travel and lodging costs with Goshen. ACARTS share should be about $250. No other business was discussed. My goal was to someday try this on to have this resolved in time to finish the my vertical. Carl Luetzelschwab, K9LA or my DXing efforts on 80m and 75m, I Fhave a wire vertical supported by a big (3-foot diameter, 80-foot tall) oak tree on the east side of our property. The vertical wire starts at 6 feet off the ground and goes up to a pulley at about 65 feet. Since this is a bit shorter than a quarter-wave, there’s a small B&W Airdux coil at the bottom of the vertical portion to resonate the system on 80m for CW operation. I can also short out several turns of the coil with clip leads to resonate it on 75m for Phone operation (it is fun to make the change in the dark of night in the snow). I use three 65-foot long elevated radials with this vertical. Many years ago Dick K5IU had an in- teresting article titled “Optimal Elevated Radial Vertical Antennas” in the Spring 1997 issue of Communications Quarterly The opportunity for the modification antenna and begin chasing DX on 75m (which was subsequently absorbed into to my existing vertical came from my lawn and 80m in the fall.
