She clerked her first meeting on Thursday 20th February. We would like to welcome Debbie onboard and thank Nikki Bowe for all her work over the past few years. At the moment please would you continue to use Nikki’s email address for questions, comments and concerns etc. and we will update you once we have a new email address for Debbie Parked cars please can people be considerate when parking cars and refrain from parking close to or opposite junctions or on footpaths as they then become an obstacle to pedestrians, especially for pushchair and wheelchair users and young children – thank you! BE SAFE, BE SEEN a reminder to all out walking/cycling/riding during the morning and evenings, please wear something visible (like a High Visibility Vest) as motorists don’t always see you until last minute Maunby Village Speed Limit Review we have received a negative response from Area 2 - Thirsk Office Highways with regards to even having a review done. Not one to be fobbed off, Ken Johnson has written to 95 Alive Partnership which reviews road safety…. so, we will wait & see what their response is, watch this space! All 3 Defibrillators have been installed centrally in each village, the first was at the front of The Buck Inn at Maunby in March 2019; the second was at the rear of The Otterington Shorthorn (in car park) in May 2019 and the third on the Old School House (behind the post-box/notice board) in Newby Wiske in January 2020. Fund raising enough money to purchase 3 Defibrillators in approx. 14 months is a major community achievement which the charity, Restarting Hearts, have asked if they could publicise as they were astounded at just how well and how quickly our three villages worked together as a community in order to raise the necessary funds - well done and thank you very much to everyone who got involved or helped out in any way. A massive thank you also to the Landlords of both pubs and the Old School House for allowing them to be installed on their property. Following concerns and comments raised by local residents about how to use the defibrillators, how they work and whether you could kill someone by using it, rather than saving their life etc the Parish Council are in the process of organising a meeting with Restarting Hearts at the Village Hall. They have asked that they cover areas such as what to do in an emergency, an understanding of CPR and familiarisation of the defibrillator (how it works; that it can’t harm anyone etc.) and they will happily answer any other questions you may have. As soon as we have a date for this, we will let you know WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING & WHAT’S GOING ON Friends of South Otterington School this year we are supporting our school by fundraising for new laptops and updating the nature garden. We would like to thank Mrs Barnes and Mrs Thornber from Newby Wiske for their generous donation which allowed us to purchase new playtime equipment for the children, they were all absolutely delighted! Tesco Bags of Help Scheme South Otterington Primary School has qualified for the Tesco Bags of Help scheme to develop their outdoor nature garden. Until the end of March, you will be able to vote for their nature garden in both Northallerton and Bedale Tesco stores using the blue tokens you get at the till. Please would you to consider putting your blue token in their box to help support our wonderful school? The more tokens they get in their box the more money they will receive South Otterington School on Monday 2nd March to celebrate World Book week the BFG (!) will be in school. Staff and children will all be dressing as their favourite book characters and having a sponsored read! The School’s Ethical Leaders (children) decided to organise this so they can save up for an indoor Reading space to complement their Outdoor Reading Shed.
