Remarks by Mary Barra Chairman and CEO, General Motors Hello, everyone. I’m Mary Barra, chairman and CEO of General Motors. I’m excited to have this opportunity to talk with you online tonight. I want to begin by reiterating our unwavering commitment to our employees, customers and partners in China. The video you just saw captures our energy, our passion and our confidence as we envision a future with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion. This vision drives every team member, everywhere, every day. We are investing heavily in the technology and innovation that will help us realize our vision. From 2020 to 2025, we will allocate more than $20 billion in capital and engineering resources to our EV and AV programs. General Motors brings a deep history of technical expertise as we continue to innovate to deliver safe, efficient, connected vehicles and services that lead the industry and exceed our customers' expectations. In China, we laid out Drive to 2030 – the advanced technology roadmap for our China vehicle portfolio – at the World Expo in Shanghai 10 years ago. As GM’s largest market and a global center of innovation, China will play a very crucial role in making our vision a reality. With our joint venture partner SAIC, we are blending global insights and scale with local market expertise to redefine what is possible for our customers and for society. • I thank SAIC Chairman Chen Hong for his leadership and partnership that have contributed to our shared success. 1 Today, our team will give you a clear look at everything we are doing to transform how we get around today … and in the future. General Motors is pursuing an all-electric future. Our EV programs are fully on track, including work on the Cadillac LYRIQ luxury SUV you see behind me. • We revealed it two weeks ago in the United States, and it also will be available in China. You can see how we are taking on autonomous driving as the engineering challenge of this generation, and how we will upgrade its capability in the future. You will also see how our state-of-the-art Ultium battery system will empower our EV portfolio, and how future design will provide consumers with inspiring products. With most of our global and China leadership team all together in this session, I hope we can leave you with a clearer understanding about the synergies we are creating in electrification, autonomous driving and connectivity, which will unlock their great potential for China. With that, Chairman Chen will take the stage, and share more about how our SAIC-GM builds upon its solid foundation to create future transportation solutions for Chinese customers. # # # 2 Remarks by Mark Reuss President, General Motors Hello, everyone, thanks for being with us. I’d like to share some thoughts with you about electrification and technology at General Motors… and how we’re working hard, every day, to usher in the future… in China, and around the world. We've enhanced our capabilities in the EV space by investing in the right facilities and the right people to create the right vehicle portfolio. Today we want to show you our plan, demonstrate our progress, and answer your questions about the various facets of our EV program. For example, we’ll share the details about our Ultium battery system and our all-new, modular EV architecture. We'll show how the flexibility of our approach allows us to drive high volumes, in multiple segments for multiple brands -- all off the same modular platform. • For perspective, consider this... GM has more than 500 different internal combustion engine powertrain combinations in production. • Our forthcoming EV portfolio can be supported by just 19 EV propulsion combinations, using our unique battery modules, drive units and power electronics. From one modular architecture, we have the ability to make vehicles around the world ranging from full-size trucks… to SUVs and MPVs… to cars… and even self-driving vehicles like the Cruise Origin. Our architecture is flexible enough to offer vehicles globally that: 3 • Can drive an estimated 400 miles on a charge in North America – and equivalent range in China • Can go 0-100 km/h in as low as 3 seconds. • Can have energy ranges from 50 to more than 200 Kilowatt-hours • Can run in FWD, RWD or AWD configurations • and can run from 175 kilowatts to 746 kilowatts And of course, we'll do all this with safety top of mind, just as we do every day, with every vehicle program. We're working to achieve a vision of zero crashes through new collision avoidance and driving automation technologies. But until we achieve the vision, vehicles still need to keep people safe. GM has been a pioneer in the development of safe electric vehicles going back to EV1 in the 1990s, and we've continued to learn as we raise the bar on safety. We have a dedicated battery safety team, and one of the key goals is to protect the battery in a crash, much like we protect fuel systems. Our batteries have been packaged below the seating area and are designed to be an integral part of the vehicle structure that helps to protect the occupant's safety cage in case of a crash. We have crash evaluations that assess the unique characteristics of a high-voltage battery system. Our process includes shutting down and isolating the electrical system in the event of a crash or flood, to avoid shock risk. 4 We've played key roles leading the standards committees around battery safety of organizations like the Society of Automotive Engineers, and we intend to remain an industry leader. We also intend, as we've said, to do electric vehicles profitably… There are many enablers to that goal, including our flexible, modular architecture and battery pack strategy, our scale, and our aggressive approach to taking cost out of batteries, cells and other materials. We'll show you how our state-of-the-art Ultium battery design promotes greater packaging density, which enables better design flexibility -- more room for people and less space needed for batteries. We'll also show you our plans for our expanded EV product portfolio, which will really lay out the breadth and depth of our approach. Simply put, this is a huge opportunity for us. The biggest opportunity any of us has ever seen for this company, certainly. It represents a chance to reinvent the company and reset our brands. It will change this company, and people's perceptions of it, forever. We are also working hard in areas beyond the vehicles, like charging and charging infrastructure. Our goal is to make EV life easy, efficient and convenient for our customers. We want to reduce charging times, to provide more charge, more rapidly, for more people. 5 All of the work I have described represents the future, and it’s all real. The proof is in the vehicles on display around you. I encourage you to take a good look, soak it all in, and please let us know what questions you have. Thank you very much for joining us today, and for taking a closer look at a future that all of us at General Motors are very excited about, so thanks again. # # # 6 Remarks by Doug Parks Executive Vice President Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain, General Motors Hello, everyone, I'd like to tell you how GM's leadership in automated driving and autonomous vehicle technology will help enable our vision of a world with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion. The potential is enormous, especially in the largest and most congested cities, like Beijing and Los Angeles, where every crash avoided and every moment saved during commuting can dramatically improve peoples' quality of life. General Motors has a two-pronged approach: One, the expansion and continuing evolution of personal driver assistance technology with Super Cruise, And two, the development of self-driving ride-share technology through Cruise Automation. Both offer transformative experiences in personal mobility, building on the advanced driver awareness technologies already offered and proven for years in many current General Motors vehicles. That's paramount, because trust is just as important as the technology -- and safety has always been at the forefront of GM's automated and autonomous driving initiatives. Customers can trust our technology and experience. Super Cruise is a great example of automated driving initiatives. 7 Unlike other driver assistance systems, it uses two advanced technology systems -- a driver attention system and precision LiDAR map data. Customers LOVE it. I LOVE it. When launched in 2018, Super Cruise was an instant differentiator for Cadillac and contributed to the brand's increased perception as a technology-driven nameplate, and it transformed the highway driving experience for our customers. To date, customers globally have driven more than 10 million kilometers with Super Cruise... and have it engaged about 50 percent of the time they're on the road -- and 85 percent of current CT6 owners say Super Cruise is a feature they'd want or must have on their next vehicle. For 2021, we are introducing an enhanced version of Super Cruise in China and the U.S. ... with new features including Lane Change On Demand, which allows for lane changes when the driver indicates one is desired... as well as richer map data and updates that make it easier and more intuitive to activate Super Cruise. Many of these new features are enabled by our all-new electrical architecture known as the Vehicle Intelligence Platform, or "VIP”.
