Otter Street Pond Hockey Nationals Official Tournament Rules Tournament Specifications: 3 on 3 tournament: 4 Guaranteed games between Friday / Saturday o Both divisions are NO CHECK After qualifying rounds, a seeded bracket will be posted o Championship & Consolation brackets are both single elimination 2 – 20 minute run-time halves, with a 5 minute break o Teams will switch ends at halftime o 1st half direction will be determined by pre-game coin toss Goals will be traditional pond hockey goals, not full nets Players are only allowed to register for 1 team, cannot sub for other teams o Substitutions from original roster will be allowed only prior to first game starting on Friday afternoon Prizes are awarded for: o 1st – 3rd in Championship bracket o Consolation Bracket Championship winner There will be an off-ice official & off-ice score keeper for each game It is the team captain’s responsibility to verify correct score is added to the tournament scoring charts / brackets o At the end of each game team captain’s will sign official score sheets to confirm the scoring is correct. In the event of a forfeit during divisional play, “winning” team will be awarded the average of their goals-for (calculated at the end of divisional round) for that game, 0 for the forfeiting team. Tournament Scoring Teams will be divided into 4 divisions within each tournament. Each team will play the 3 teams in their division to determine seeding for championship & consolation brackets. Top 2 teams from each division move into Championship Bracket (8 Total) Bottom 2 teams from each division move into Consolation Bracket (8 Total) o Both Championship & Consolation brackets are single elimination Tie Breakers in qualifying rounds will be: o 1st: Goal differential o 2nd: Total Goals Scored o Coin Flip – flipped by tournament worker Seeding for Championship & Consolation brackets are determined by: o 1st: Goal differential o 2nd : Goals Scored o 3rd: Goals Surrendered o 4th: Random Placement by director Game time & On Ice Rules This tournament is FOR FUN, disrespectful or unruly behavior will receive a penalty on ice – continued behavior will result in ejection of the player & potential disqualification of the team All teams are required to bring Dark & Light Jersey o Schedule will determine jersey color at game time All Players must visibly display their player credentials before entering game ice All Players are required to wear, at minimum: o Helmet (face shield is not required) o Gloves o Skates o Additional protective equipment is optional, but highly recommended Goals can be scored from anywhere on the ice o Off-ice score keeper will announce score after each goal is scored In the event of a tie in any game, the game moves to sudden death format o A coin toss will determine who starts with the puck to start the sudden death If a puck exits the playing surface, the last team to touch the puck loses possession o During “reset” defender must give attacker 2 stick lengths of space to start play Saucer passes are allowed, however they must be below the knee There are no off-sides or icing calls There are no time-stoppages o This includes after a goal o Line changes are to be done “on the fly” Scoring team must give opposing team ½ of the ice to “reset” after a goal No goalies / on-ice goaltending – includes “Camping” in close proximity o If referee deems a player is goaltending, a minor penalty is issued No Slap or Snap shots – shots involving the stick going above the knee are prohibited. o Such actions will result in a minor penalty Penalties Penalties are issued based on off-ice referees discretion If a penalty is called, the team on the power play will start with the puck in their own defensive zone o Team on the penalty kill must remain behind ½ ice to start the kill. o 2 Minutes start when play begins, game clock does not stop Penalties Include: . Tripping – 2 Minute (Run Time) . Hooking – 2 Minute (Run Time) . Interference – 2 Minute (Run Time) . Too Many Men – 2 Minute (Run Time) . Checking – Game ejection . Unsportsmanlike Conduct - Game ejection Includes any verbal attacks at the officials or tournament workers. (yelling, swearing, or arguing harshly about calls) . High Sticking – 2 Minute (Run Time) Includes shots – sticks should remain below the knee Contacting a puck with a stick above the waist will result in a loss of possession . Goaltending – 2 Minute (Run Time) Player cannot intentionally fall or lay on the ice with the intentions of blocking the goal area All penalties are able to be called as a “major” penalty if the act is with intent to injure another player or an official. o Result of a major penalty is an immediate ejection from the game. o If a player receives 2 major penalties through the tournament, they will be ejected from the tournament. In the event that a player receives 3 minor penalties, player will receive a game ejection o As with major penalties, in the event of 2 game ejections – player will be ejected from the tournament.
