The activities on the field on Sunday were very well supported both by local residents and visitors. The Jubilee tea was one of Marloes best with plenty of choice and a good cup of tea. “Marloes Got Talent” proved very entertaining, and the 50's evening in the Lobster Pot was greatly enjoyed. The climax came on Monday evening with the procession from the Village Green to the Beacon Field, culminating with the lighting of the Beacon Fire at 10.15 precisely by Phil Griffiths and Barbara Scale. The hundreds who attended this event will remember the evening for a long time – good weather, a great atmosphere, and a bonfire second to none. Thank-you to every one who contributed in any way to all the activities of the weekend. Cllr. Mark Burton Festival of Roses at Herbrandston May I convey my sincere thanks, to every one who helped too make the Jubilee Festival of Roses a resounding success. From the small crew who helped me set up the display eg. filling the phials with water, fixing the cards, and placing the roses. The ladies who wrote the cards, the Church members for selling the roses, the ladies who organised the refreshments in the hall. Last but not least, everyone who purchased a rose/roses. God bless you all. Yours thankfully, Colin G Reynolds ONE'S HAD ENOUGH! Dedicated to those many “Unseen Heroes” One has a rather special job: there's lots of travelling round For, all across the British Isles, one has to visit towns. Now, some of these are ugly, and some of them are quaint– But when will people realise that one hates the smell of paint? It's true, there's never litter: the streets are spick and span; And every police officer is smiling, to a man. One never, ever, ever, gets jostled by the crowd As they wave their flags and cheer– my goodness, aren't they loud? One week one is in Scotland; the next, one is in Wales; But they never let one stop to shop: one misses all the sales! It's best behaviour every time: one must never lose one’s cool– Even with some dense official who's being such a fool. The work, it hasn't altered at all in sixty years– They couldn't mechanise it; that never was one’s fear. But, all around, the world has changed; a huge difference, of course, is, When one started there were debutantes, and every girl loved horses. So don't you think one's justified at least to mull it over When, at one’s time of life, it's off we go again to Dover, Or Penzance, bound for Tresco, or darkest Pembrokeshire? So many thousand miles! Oh, why not jolly well retire? Of course one was delighted when first one got the job; And one can't deny that, down the years, one's earned a fair few bob. But now, at last, the day has come – this work, one's going to chuck it: Someone else can follow Liz’s coach with a shovel and a bucket! Chris Jessop An amazing £700 raised for Dale Play Area funds Thank you! Dale certainly entered into the fun and celebrations of the Diamond Jubilee with a day to remember on Saturday 2 June. The Community Picnic ‘Bring & Share’ saw a great village turnout with a feast of dishes. The stalls lined the street and village green – the star attraction being the cake stall which was loaded with homemade delights and raised an astounding £130. Activities continued throughout the afternoon with a backdrop of flags and bunting on the eye-catching boats which adorned the water for the boat pageant. No one can deny that the ‘Dale Queen’ stole the show – amazing the crowds and providing endless entertainment for the children. We owe a huge thank you to the community of Dale with a special thanks to all those who helped make the event such a success. A big thank you to Luke and Steve Warlow, Mark Reynolds, Simon Vickers and Brian Thomas for their muscle and mechanical power clearing and raking the green, and sweeping down the pavements in advance of Saturday. Thank you to all those who helped clear away the tables and chairs on the day, just in time for the rain. Our fundraising efforts were made possible with the generous donations for the stalls, auction and raffle. A big thank you to: Marianne Brand, Lynne Llewellyn Davies, Cerianne & Adam from The Moorings, Jan Mathias, Alex Mathias, Sion Slaymaker & Mark Gainfort on ‘Kingfisher’, Steve Evans of GE Evans & Son Butcher, Teifi Cheeses and Tony & Cath from The Boathouse Café Dale Thank you also to John Mecklenburgh for organising the boat pageant; to John Webber for judging the boat pageant; to our auctioneer Peter Morgan; to Caroline Lawley and Tania Warlow for organising the Scarecrow competition, which was judged by Sean Kehoe; to John Bramley for scrutinising the judging and handing out the awards and medals; and to the musicians of ‘Your not Percy’ and their ensemble for what proved a perfect end to the day. We raised a further £300 towards the fireworks fund with significant donations from The Griffin, West Wales Windsurfing and Freemans Motors. Unfortunately the weather did set in and we decided to postpone the bonfire and fireworks. We hope to rearrange these for a fine evening over the summer – please look out for further information.
