FLASH REPORT #53: POPULATION DISPLACEMENT DTM North West/North Central Nigeria Nigeria 17 - 23 MAY 2021 Aected Population: Damaged Shelters: Casualties: Movement Trigger: 1,922 Individuals 31 99 Armed attacks OVERVIEW AFFECTED LOCATIONS Nigeria's North Central and North West Zones are afflicted with a mul�dimensional crisis that is rooted in long-standing tensions between ethnic and religious groups and involves a�acks by criminal groups and banditry/hirabah (such as kidnapping NIGER REPUBLIC and grand larceny along major highways). The crisis has accelerated during the past years because of the intensifica�on of a�acks and has resulted in widespread Sokoto displacement across the region. Yobe Between 17 and 23 May 2021, armed clashes between herdsmen and farmers, and Batsari bandits and local communi�es have led to new waves of popula�on displacement. 613 Following these events, rapid assessments were conducted by DTM (Displacement Tracking Matrix) field staff with the purpose of informing the humanitarian commu- Katsina nity and government partners, and enable targeted response. Faskari 14 Bauchi The latest a�acks affected 1,922 individuals including 69 injuries and 99 fatali�es in Kebbi 166 Agatu LGA of Benue State, Jema’a and Chikun LGAs of Kaduna State and Faskari, Malumfashi and Batsari LGAs in Katsina State. The a�acks caused people to flee to neighbouring localities.
