Being Gay and Christian in 2018

Take on Lent Being Gay and Christian in 2018 The five weeks of Wednesday night suppers and classes begin February 21 and end March 28 (no programs on March 14). All are welcome! Wednesday Evening schedule 5:30 pm: Evensong in Great Choir 6:15 pm: Gather for glass of wine or sparkling beverage 6:30 pm: Supper (suggested donation) 7:15 pm: Classes begin 8:30 pm: Evening Ends DESCRIPTION Given all the progress we’ve made regarding LGBTQ people and rights, why is it still so hard to reconcile being gay and Christian? Why do I continue to fail to experience not only the Church’s acceptance, but celebration of my sexuality? How do I live my life in God’s arms anyway? The Right Reverend Gene Robinson will convene a discussion group on issues related to being in the church (by birth or by choice) as an LGBTQ person. Augmented by occasional readings, the group will explore how to find and nourish a healthy relationship with God, while dealing with a still-less-than-welcoming church and society. This opportunity for discussion and learning will provide a safer space to ask the question, “How do I find healing and hope as an LGBTQ Christian?” Bishop V. Gene Robinson is the retired Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire and currently serves as bishop-in-residence at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. In 2003, he became the first openly gay man elected a bishop in the Anglican Communion, thereby becoming the first gay bishop in Christianity. He currently serves as vice president and senior pastor of the Chautauqua Institution in New York State.
