CSIRO-the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation - is one of the largest and most diverse scientific research institutions in the world. It has a staff of more than 7000, working in laboratories and field stations throughout Australia. CSIRO is an independent statutory authority constituted and operating under the provisions of the Science and Industry Research Act 1949.
