C':) CHARLESTON, IL.--Well-known jazz artist Clark Terry will appear Ca.:.) Ld-1 with the Eastern Illinois University Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. .,..,.. J ..._-- Thursday, April 20, in Eastern's Dvorak Concert Hall. Tickets for the concert, sponsored by Eastern's Jazz Studies Program and the University Board, can be purchased at the door for $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. Tickets can be ordered by calling the EIU Student Union Ticket Office at 581-5122. Terry will also present two clinic sessions at 2 and 3 p.m. in Eastern's Fine Arts Center. A trumpeter, Terry gained early recognition when he played with the bands of Charlie Banjet, Eddie Vinson and Charlie Ventura. He became widely known after joining Count Basie in 1948. -more- ADD 1/1/1/1 CLARK TERRY He gained international fame in 1951 after joining the Duke Ellington orchestra where he was a featured soloist for many years. In 1985, Terry was inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame during a ceremony conducted by Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. Terry had been a featured soloist with the NBC Tonight Show Orchestra for many years. In 1977, he helped form the Clark Terry Great Plains Jazz Camp at Emporia (Kansas) State University where young musicians from throughout the United States receive training in the art of jazz performance. Eastern's Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Allan Horney, recently returned from the Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival where it was one of three Outstanding Bands selected. Four student soloists received Outstanding Performance awards. -30-.
