Section A consists of five objective type questions 5x1=5,section B consists of four short answer type questions 4x3=12,section C consists of three long answer type questions 3x6=18 Section - I 1- History of the origin of Tabla or Mridang (Pakhawaj). 2- Technique of Producing the syllables (Varna) on Tabla and Banya individually and jointly. 3- Definitions of the following terms: Sangeet, Tat vadya, Avanaddha vadya, Ghana vadya, Sushir vadya, Laya, Tala, Matra, Sam, Khali, Bhari, Tali, Vibhag, Avartan, Theka, Vilambit, Madhya, Drut, Barabar, Dugun, Tigun, Chougun. Section - II 4- Definitions and explanation of the distinctive features and applications of the following: Quida, Gat, Mukhda, Rela, Tukda, Mohara, Tihai, Bol, Palta. Section - III 5- General Knowledge of Ten (10) Prans of Tala. Internal Assessment 15 Marks 2 Lectures/Week Paper – I, Practical (Unit-II) MM-100(70+30) Credits -4 1- Practice of producing different syllables (Varna) on Tabla and Banya 2- Study of the Thekas of the following Talas in Barabar and Dugun Laya with oral rendering & two Quada Palta Rela, Tihai Practical Paper in I &II. i- Trital ii- Jhaptal iii- Dadra 8 Lecture/Week 3 Semester - II Layout & Course of Study Hindustani Music (Instrumental Tabla/Pakhawaj) Duration – 3 Hrs Paper – II, Theory, Unit –I MM- 50(35+15) Credits -2 Paper Code-MU-DSC-121 General Study and Development of Tabla/Pakhawaj There will be three sections, candidates shall have to answer all question from Section A, any four questions from section B and any three questions from section C. Section A consists of five objective type questions 5x1=5,section B consists of four short answer type questions 4x3=12,section C consists of three long answer type questions 3x6=18 Section - I 1- Method of writing notation of all Talas prescribed in Practical Paper. Section - II 2- Comparative study of the features and the application of Damdar and Bedam Tihais in all prescribed talas. 3- Life history and contribution to the field of Tabla or Mridang of the following: Wajid Hussain Khalifa, Pandit Sakharam, Ayodhya Prasad Section - III 4- Brief knowledge of Gharanas of Tabla. Internal Assessment 15 Marks 2 Lectures/Week Paper – II, Practical (Unit-II) MM-100(70+30) Credits -4 i- Adachoutal ii- Dhamar iii- Kaharva iv- Ektal 1- Practice of Dugun & Chaugun laya of the above talas with thekha. 2- At least four variations of the Thekas of Dadra and Kaharva 3- Solo playing in Trital, Jhaptal and Sooltal with simple Quida, Gats, Tukda, Mukhda with oral renderings. 8 Lecture/Week 4 Semester - III Layout & Course of Study Hindustani Music (Instrumental Tabla/Pakhawaj) Duration – 3 Hrs Paper – III, Theory, Unit –I MM- 50(35+15) Credits -2 Paper Code-MU-DSC-131 Basic Study about Tabla, Pakhawaj, Percussion Instrument There will be three sections, candidates shall have to answer all question from Section A, any four questions from section B and any three questions from section C. Section A consists of five objective type questions 5x1=5,section B consists of four short answer type questions 4x3=12,section C consists of three long answer type questions 3x6=18 Section - I 1- Merits and Demerits of Tabla/Mridang Player. 2- Definitions and principles of application of the following terms: Laggi, Lari, Paran, Uthan, Peshkar Section - II 3- General knowledge and practical usefulness of different Tal Vadyas (Percussion Instruments). Section - III 4- Writing notation of all the Talas prescribed in the practical course and their layakaris in Dugun, Tigun and Chougun Internal Assessment 15 Marks 2 Lectures/Week Paper – III, Practical (Unit-II) MM-100(70+30) Credits -4 Talas- Trital, Jhaptal, Ektal, Dadra, Kaharwa 1- Ability to play Thekas of the prescribed Talas in Dugun and Chougun Layas. 2- Advanced playing in Trital, Jhaptal, Ektal. 3- Two advanced Quidas, Four Tukdas, Two Relas, Two Mukhras and Simple Tihais in Ektal and Jhaptal. 8 Lecture/Week 5 Semester - IV Layout & Course of Study Hindustani Music (Instrumental Tabla/Pakhawaj) Duration – 3 Hrs Paper – IV, Theory, Unit –I MM- 50(35+15) Credits -2 PaperCode-MU-DSC-141 Theory of Indian Music (General) Knowledge of Bajs, Biographies and Contributions of Musicians There will be three sections, candidates shall have to answer all question from Section A, any four questions from section B and any three questions from section C. Section A consists of five objective type questions 5x1=5,section B consists of four short answer type questions 4x3=12,section C consists of three long answer type questions 3x6=18 Section - I 1- Comparative study of the different Bajs of Tabla. Section - II 2- Definition and knowledge of the application of the following: Zarab, Wazen, Ati Vilambit, Ati Drut, Jati (Five Kinds), Yati (Five Kinds), Graha (Four Kinds) 3- Life history and contribution of the following: i- Ustad Ahmed Jan Thirakwa ii- Ustad Habibuddin Khan iii- Kanthe Maharaj iv- Ramashahay v- Ustad Natthu Khan vi- Ustad Karamatullah Khan Section - III 4- Writing notations of the following talas. i- Jhaptal, Rupak, Ektal. Internal Assessment 15 Marks 2 Lectures/Week Paper – IV, Practical (Unit-II) MM-100(70+30) Credits -4 1- Study of relas in Rupaktal and Ektal. 2- Advanced study of solo playing in Jhaptal. 3- Advanced Quidas, Gats, Mukhdas, Relas, Tukdas and Tihais in Trital. 8 Lecture/Week 6 Semester - V Layout & Course of Study Hindustani Music (Instrumental Tabla/Pakhawaj) Duration – 3 Hrs Paper – V, Theory, Unit –I MM- 50(35+15) Credits -2 Classification of Layakari & General Study about Tabla/Pakhawaj There will be three sections, candidates shall have to answer all question from Section A, any four questions from section B and any three questions from section C. Section A consists of five objective type questions 5x1=5,section B consists of four short answer type questions 4x3=12,section C consists of three long answer type questions 3x6=18 Section - I 1- Definition and knowledge of application of the following: Gat-Quida, Gat-Paran, Navahakka, Tripalli and Choupalli Gats, Bant and Chala. 2- Knowledge of Jati Bhed (Tisra, Chatasra, Misra, Khanda and Sankirna) Section - II 3- Study of Adi, Kuadi, Biadi and Savai Laya. 4- Writing in notaion of all Talas, Bols etc. prescribed for V semester practical course along with their different Layakaris. 5- Comparative study of North Indian and the South Indian Tal notation systems. Section - III 6- Theoretical details of all practical portions of the syllabus. 7- Comparative study of Khulla and Bandh Baj. Internal Assessment 15 Marks 2 Lectures/Week Paper – V, Practical (Unit-II) MM-100 Credits -4 1- Advanced study of Peshkars, Quidas, Gats, Mukhdas, Tukdas and Relas (at least three in each) with Paltas in Trital. 2- Four Tukdas and two Parans (simple and chakradar) with advanced types of Tihais in Choutal and Sooltal. 3- Tukdas, Gats, Relas, Mukhdas, Quidas (two each) and advanced Tihais in Rupak, Pancham Sawari, Deepchandi and Jhumra.
