This guide serves as your one stop shop to know where and what is located around both the Lake Shore and Water Tower campuses. Inside these pages are places that will become part of your daily routine. They are Loyola’s favorite coffee shops, grocery stores, tasty restaurants, and so much more. Within Edgewater, Rogers Park, and Gold Coast, you will find welcoming residents and business owners. Edgewater literally hugs the water’s edge, with miles of beaches and green spaces to relax in, and stunning views over Lake Michigan from seven miles north of the Loop. Edgewater’s global mix of cultures, which includes large pockets of African and Eastern European immigrants, makes the neighborhood a culinary feast. It’s also famous for antique’s, vintage boutique’s, grocery stores and specialty farm stands. Outside of food and antiquing, Edgewater is acclaimed for its storefront theatre district, where you’ll experience innovative productions. Rogers Park is one of Chicago’s most diverse neighborhoods, with approximately 40 different languages spoken. As you might expect, the neighborhood’s dining options are just as diverse. The area’s restaurants will take you on a journey from Mexico to Peru, Jamaica to Ethiopia, Korea to the Middle East, and beyond. If you want a taste of Chicago’s artsy side, Rogers Park is the perfect place to be. Check out the Glenwood Avenue Arts District, an inviting urban stretch with cobblestone streets, sprawling murals, three award-winning theatres, live music venues, art studios and galleries, and more. The Gold Coast is a luxury lover’s haven. Charming homes on picture-perfect streets, high-end boutiques, and restaurants favored by celebrities past and present all give this neighborhood its star power. This guide includes over 200 1 business listings from museums and local shops to health clubs and pharmacies. Also included is information on how to get around the city via public transportation, where your Rambler Bucks are accepted, and what you can save on by using your Loyola I.D. Loyola University Chicago’s Guidelines to Campus are focused on the safety, health, and well-being of our community as our top priority. Now more than ever, we are called together to care for ourselves, each other, and the broader community. The policies and protocols in this document are designed to support safety and our mission to provide a first-class, Jesuit, Catholic education that prepares our students to serve humanity through learning, justice, and faith. Good Neighbor Policy: Students are expected to conduct themselves as mature and responsible members of the Chicago and Loyola communities. As such, they are responsible for upholding all federal, state, and city laws and ordinances, especially those relating to noise, traffic, parking, zoning, and consumption of alcohol. In addition, they are expected to foster an atmosphere that nurtures positive educational pursuits, an understanding and tolerance of those with different cultural and political points of view, and an environment that encourages responsible behavior. From all of us, “Welcome to Loyola, we look forward to seeing you ramblin’ safely around the neighborhood!” You can also find this guide digitally at luc.edu/oce/businessengagement/rogersedge.
