White to Blue Belt Test The new test for blue belt is not so you can regurgitate moves and get a belt. The purpose is to make sure you have a good fundamental understanding of the basics of Brazilian Jiujitsu. Along with this we also want to make sure you have a good understanding of the game that you play and the techniques you use. With this is mind the test will require you to perform and explain very specific movements and techniques, as well as having you demonstrate your own favorite moves and techniques. Escapes You will be required to perform and demonstrate escapes from the basic positions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Along with showing the techniques you will need to explain the body positioning needed for these techniques. • 3 mount escapes • 3 side mount escapes. 1 for each of the 3 basic side mount positions • 2 back mount escapes • 1 north south escape • 1 knee on belly escape • 2 guard breaks Submission Escapes / Defense You will be required to perform and demonstrate submission escapes and defenses. A long with this you will need to explain the important positioning needed to make the escapes and defenses possible. • 2 armbar escapes/defense (1 from inside the guard and 1 from the bottom of mount) • 2 triangle escapes/defense • 2 guillotine choke escapes/defense • 2 kimura escapes escapes/defense • 1 straight ankle escape/defense • 1 rear naked choke escape/defense • 1 head and arm triangle escape/defense Escapes (Self Defense) You will demonstrate how to deal with the situations listed below. • Counter the standing head lock • Escape the head lock on the ground • How to deal with a bear hug (from both the front and back) • Deal with rape choke inside the guard • How to control someone who is trying to punch inside the guard Take downs Demonstrate the following, be sure to describe correct posture and positioning for these techniques. • 1 takedowns in gi and 1 takedown in no gi • 2 grip breaks with the gi • Pull guard • Stop double Leg • Stop single Leg • Proper stance and positioning Passing Demonstrate the following, be sure to describe correct posture and positioning for these techniques. • 2 standing passes • 2 low passing • 1 no gi Pass • 1 gi pass pass • Explain important points about finishing the guard pass and establishing a strong top position. Closed Guard Attacks Demonstrate the following • 2 posture breaks • 2 armbars with setups • 2 triangles with setups • 3 collar chokes and variations • Guillotine • Kimura • Omaplata • 3 closed guard sweeps • 1 triple threat series Half Guard Bottom Demonstrate the following • How to get the under hook • How to get back to closed guard • 2 sweeps from half guard • 1 submission from half guard Half Guard Top Demonstrate the following • How to fight for the under hook on top • 2 ways to pass the half guard • 1 submission from half guard top Side Mount Demonstrate the following • 3 basic side mount positions with details about each of the positioning • 2 submission from side mount • 2 transitions to mount from side mount • Keylock Mount Demonstrate the following • 3 gi chokes and variations • Cpr armbar • Armbar setup against person who is using proper defense • 2 grip breaks when person is defending the armbar • Keylock • Perfect mount (also how to escape) • How to control a person who is “spazzing out” • How to deal with a person who is bear hugging you from the bottom of mount Back Mount Demonstrate the following • How to take the back from a guard position • How to take the back from top position • 2 upper body controls from back mount • Read naked choke • 2 collar chokes • Armbar from back Drills You will need to demonstrate and explain the importance of the drills • Front roll, back roll, hip escape, bridge, side break fall, back break fall, Hip escape to turtle, stand up and base, sit outs, box drill, penetration step, gator crawls, frog hops, bear crawls.
