Maybe 2[ would not have been everybody’s overcall as they have gadgets (like 2{) here and there to show a major two-suiter after this start to the auction. It did not matter very much, as 2[ would have brought E/W a good score. It got even better when Elines- cu doubled. Defending 2[ would not have been a great suc- cess, Wladow correctly judged, so he removed to 2NT, which was not a success either when the diamond finesse proved wrong and East started to cash his clubs… Down two would give N/S a meagre 25 MP out of a 128 Entscho Wladow, Germany top.
