COLCHESTER COMMUNITY DAY OF ACTION No: 21 SUMMARY of OUTCOMES FRIDAY 7th October 2016 – Rowhedge Colchester’s twenty first “Community Day of Action” took place in Rowhedge on the 7th October 2016 with 23 Agencies and over 60 volunteers participating. This community day of action was the third community lead event, and was held in partnership with East Donyland Parish Council Agencies and Volunteer Groups that participated include: *Participating CBC Teams: Age UK Essex Colchester Borough Council* Animal Services, Connors Legacy Dog Behaviourist, Private Sector Colchester Borough Homes (Housing & Caretakers) Housing Team, Licencing, Colchester Community Voluntary Services Environmental Protection, Go Online Colchester United (Football in the Community) Team, Helpline and Zones DVLA East Donyland Parish Council Portfolio Holder for Community Safety Essex County Council** and CBC Ward Councillors attended Essex Fire & Rescue Service the event Essex Police*** GO4 Enterprises CIC Keep Britain Tidy River Care Team **Participating ECC Teams: Parish Path Partnership Rowhedge Coastal Rowing & Football Clubs Ranger Service, Youth Service, Rowhedge Social Club & Resident Association Recycle for Essex and Trading North Essex Parking Partnership Standards Safer Colchester Partnership Safer Essex Roads Partnership ***Participating Police Teams: St Johns Ambulance St Lawrence Primary School Neighbourhood Policing, Casualty University of Essex V-team Reduction, Community Safety, Crime Wivenhoe Repair & Reuse Reduction and Operation Homeguard All of the above agencies and groups took part in various community engagement and/or activities within the Rowhedge area and Social Club throughout the course of the day The top 4 issues with specifically targeted operation and activity results can be found below: ISSUE OPERATION / ACTIVITY Highways Issues 4 parking tickets issued and various roads reported for new markings by NEEP inclusive of pot holes, 2 drivers were dealt with for speeding speeding and parking 50 carriageway pot holes, 4 footpath pot holes and 25 other defects were made safe by the Essex Ranger service, using over 30 tubs of tarmac repair material A member of the public reported a Highway issue on the day by utilising the Go Online Team service at the event Essex University V team provided a number of volunteers and cleaned all street and notice signs in the village Dog Fouling and CBC Zones carried out dog fouling patrols related issues 3 dogs were microchipped and a number of residents were given information about pest control and animal related services 3 dog waste bag dispensers are scheduled to be installed during the legacy Over 60 school children and members of the public received responsible dog ownership talks conducted by Connors Legacy Dog Behaviourist Antisocial Behaviour High visibility police patrols were conducted Police carried out 1 stop and search and gained 6 pieces of intelligence CUFC FITC held a coaching session with 25 primary school pupils Essex Youth Service promoted the Rowhedge Youth Club SCP CDoA Autumn 2016 1 COLCHESTER COMMUNITY DAY OF ACTION No: 21 SUMMARY of OUTCOMES FRIDAY 7th October 2016 – Rowhedge Litter & Street On behalf of the Parish Council, 17 Volunteers litter picked all of main roads in Cleanliness the village Year 4 conducted a litter pick with the help of Eddie the Eagle and the zone team The pre-school under 5’s conducted a litter pick in The Recreation Ground and the playground 3 Young persons from the Essex Youth Offending service, along with the Defence infrastructure organisation conducted a litter pick of Weir Lane collecting 9 bags of rubbish and a number of fly tipped items Almost 2 tonnes of rubbish and foliage was collected overall, plus 1.5 tonnes of road sweepings The fence at the playpark was repainted by volunteers form Go4 Enterprises The zone team installed 4 new waste bins and 2 new street signs Volunteers weeded, tidied and cut back Shipyard Corner ready for the installation of a new boat feature CBH caretakers and The University V-team assisted Rowhedge volunteers with a renovation of the garden plot at Heath Road 250 metres squared of turf was lifted and rotivated to create the new garden plot & 25 metres cubed of soil improver was dug in. Overgrown hedges were cut back, existing beds weeded & cleared and new flower bed plants were grown, donated and planted by local volunteers. Bloor homes supplied a tipper to assist with the heavy duty work during the day The Parish Path Partnership completely reinstated an overgrown and impassable section of footpath on route towards Fingringhoe Enforcement Operations The DVLA carried out ANPR vehicle patrols Rowhedge and the surrounding area enforcing upon untaxed vehicles, 10 of which were clamped and/or fined Essex Police deployed to the area conducting local traffic operations, Home visits were conducted, Operation Homeguard was deployed and The Casualty Reduction Team conducted a road policing operation CBC’s Licensing Team carried out 2 licencing visits to local establishments within the village Trading Standards visited a number of shops within the area & provided 2 advisory notices CBC’s Environmental team visited 8 properties Further Community Engagement The local Zone Team engaged with 150 school children and various members of the public during the day CBH officer’s engaged with tenants and dealt with a vehicle issue in partnership with the DVLA 21 properties were visited by CBC private sector housing, Zones and the fire service, issuing resident’s literature about organisations that promote safety and independence in the home Age UK Essex, CCVS, Rowhedge Residents Association, Keep Britain Tidy River care, Recycle for Essex & Wivenhoe repair cafe organisations provided information to members of the public at the community engagement event at the social club People engaged with ECFRS regarding fire safety advice, of which 12 referrals were booked for free home fire safety visits / smoke alarm fittings and 12 smoke alarms were fitted on the day in resident’s properties The fire service conducted 2 Chip pan fire safety demonstrations to Primary School children and Rowhedge residents at The Recreation Ground Literature on Road Safety, Recycling and Crime Prevention was issued to St Lawrence Primary School and members of the public St John’s ambulance steered demonstrations of CPR, Water Safety & First Aid to school pupils and members of the public, and CBC Helpline provided information and conducted 2 Helpline demonstrations during the day Rowhedge Coastal Rowing Club & Football club opened their doors offering free refreshments to volunteers to all agency, organisation and community volunteers Essex Police found and returned 1 item of property to its owner and 63 purse bells issued to help prevent purse theft The Zone team identified 3 vulnerable residents who will now receive welfare visits in their home SCP CDoA Autumn 2016 2 .
