Rail accidents saw an increasing trend for SPRINTER, a decreasing trend for COASTER and Amtrak, and zero for BNSF and Metrolink. Rail near miss incidents were down for COASTER, SPRINTER, and Amtrak. There were 15 near-miss incidents in the San Diego Subdivision, a decrease from the previous quarter. Twelve (12) of the near-misses were due to trespassers, two were caused by vehicles and one was due to a bicycle. There were 2 reports for each of the following locations: Del Mar Bluffs, Taylor St., Coast Blvd., Avenida Encinas Overpass Bridge, and Surfrider Way. All other reports were single events at various locations. In the Escondido Subdivision, there was a decreasing trend in near-miss events with 17 trespasser, 14 vehicle and 3 bicycle near-miss events. Seven locations had more than one near-miss event: Rancheros Dr. (9), Crouch Blvd. (3), and two (2) each at CP Yard, San Marcos Blvd., Buena Creek Rd., Vista Transit Center, and College Blvd. All other reports were single events at various locations. For quarterly regulatory inspections, NCTD received 7 Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) inspections, 12 California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) inspections, 2 California Highway Patrol (CHP) inspections, and 1 Cal/OSHA inspection. These inspections resulted in zero (0) FRA defects and 10 CPUC defects. There was a increasing trend in Part 1 crimes for the quarter, from 5 to 10 events on NCTD property. There was a total of 11 assaults for the quarter, with 2 of them being vehicle operator assaults and 9 being passenger versus passenger.
