DIRECTORATE GENERAL NATIONAL SECURITY GUARD, NEW DELHI-37 (PRESS RELEASE) GANDIV II - MEDIA BITE National Security Guard is a Federal Contingency ZERO ERROR FORCE, mandated to neutralise counter terrorism & counter highjacking threat in all its manifestation Pan India. Towards this National Security Guard maintains multiple Task Forces, in a state of readiness to mobilise within 30 minutes. National Security Guard carries out recce of sensitive targets & all airports in the country. In addition National Security Guard undertakes Sky Marshal Operations on International & Domestic aircrafts and also provides security cover. 2. Exercise GANDIV is an Annual Crisis Response Exercise of National Security Guard and second in the series of Exercise GANDIV, conducted with effect from 06 to 09 Dec 2020 at Goa. GANDIV-I was conducted in Guwahati last year, in which a Single City Multiple Target scenario was depicted and National Security Guard Task Forces were employed in Counter Terrorist role only. However, this year the scope of the exercise was enhanced multifolds & Multiple Cities Multiple Target scenario was depicted. National Security Guard simultaneously mobilised six Task Forces in an incremental manner to Hyderabad & Goa to validate its capability in Counter Terrorist, Counter Hijack & Left Wing Extremism role. It is the first time when an exercise at this scale has been conducted by National Security Guard at National Level. 3. A worst case scenario was depicted in Goa and terror strikes were simulated at six targets both by night and day. Goa Assembly, Kala Academy, Shardha Mandir School, Hotel Taj Vivanta, Raj Bhavan & Goa Medical College were addressed by National Security Guard Task Forces in Counter Terrorist role and Dabolim Airport in Counter Terrorist & Counter Hijack role. 4. To neutralise the simulated threat, graduated response was carried out by the Primary & First Responders, followed by employment of State ATS and employment of NSG as a terminal resort. The aim was to streamline the Response Mechanism in an identical situation akin to Mumbai Terror Attacks if orchestrated in Goa. 5. The exercise witnessed the jointness & synergised efforts of Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, State Police, State ATS, Medical Services, Fire Department and State Administration. The positive response & seamless coordination between all the agencies was observed and critical lessons were drawn by all agencies to be incorporated in their drills & procedures, to further enhance their operational efficacy. 6. The employment of State Anti Terrorist Squad & National Security Guard in Counter Terrorist role at Goa Medical College was witnessed by Shri Pramod Sawant, Honourable Chief Minister of Goa alongwith officials from MEA, various Central & State Armed Forces. The Honourable Chief Minister appreciated the conduct of the National Level Exercise and congratulated all participants on their participation. The exercise assisted in validating the drills & procedures of all personnel, district & state agencies and National Security Guard towards further enhancing their Response Mechanism when employed in such a scenario. ******* .
