161310 161310-Xavier 1 4_16_2018 10:21:52 AM NAMING OPPORTUNITIES 161310 161310-Xavier 2 4_16_2018 10:22:02 AM Doing More for the Greater Good Together. For Others. The Campaign for Xavier will secure Xavier’s tradition of challenging academics and Jesuit values for future generations, enabling us to do more for each other and the world. 2 161310 161310-Xavier 3 4_16_2018 10:22:10 AM Our Mission Educating students is at the heart of what we do. It’s what Xavier’s been all about since the first 10 seminarians walked through the doors of the Athenaeum in 1831. Today, as thousands of new students start their educational journeys each year at Xavier, and hundreds more enroll in our growing number of graduate programs, a college education has almost become a necessity to attain a life of personal success and fulfillment. And Xavier delivers, year after year, sending graduates into the world prepared for their professions while bearing hearts filled with the desire to contribute to the greater good. It’s what we do. And we’ll keep on doing it into the foreseeable future—as long as we have the resources to keep to our mission. What stands before us is an opportunity to take what we have built and promise it to future generations of students, enabling them to go out and make our world a better place. Join us as we come together to light the way for others. Our Goals The goal of Together. For Others. The Campaign for Xavier is to raise $250 million to fund areas critical to the future of Xavier University and the Jesuit Catholic values and traditions that set us apart. Endowment Goal: $100 million Annual Fund Goal: $80 million Capital Projects Goal: $70 million “ We believe that our students come to Xavier with a rich history and wonderful gifts. Our job is to help them create their future by providing opportunities that allow them to not only learn in the classroom but to explore their hopes and dreams, worries and concerns, doubts and fears. By engaging their whole person, learning touches their hearts as well as their minds, and teaches them how to be Together. For Others.” - Michael J. Graham, S.J., President 3 161310 161310-Xavier 4 4_16_2018 10:22:19 AM 4 161310 161310-Xavier 5 4_16_2018 10:22:27 AM Endowment for Excellence Endowment funds are critical to Xavier’s financial stability. These permanently invested funds provide annual income for scholarships, faculty chairs and professorships, reducing tuition dependency and lending stability to our long-term financial planning. A college education today costs a lot more than it did in 1831, but with a substantial endowment, we can provide more scholarships to more bright intelligent students who are hungry for knowledge and have something to contribute to our world. We can create more programs that provide unique learning experiences for them. And we can establish more endowed chairs and professorships that bring in the best scholars who do the kind of relevant research needed to solve the world’s most pressing problems. Current Endowment While it has grown in recent years, our endowment—$169 million as of the end of 2017—is only a fraction of what’s needed to support the University into the future. Xavier’s endowment is substantially less than many of our competitor schools, and at 20th place, it ranks among the lowest of the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S. Increasing the endowment by $100 million or more will put us on par with other similar schools, making Xavier more attractive to prospective students in an increasingly competitive market. XAVIER’S ENDOWMENT PER STUDENT FTE RANKS 4/5 AMONG COMPETITORS. • Ohio State University - $66,839 $66,839 • University of Dayton - $45,359 $45,359 • University of Cincinnati - $39,251 $39,251 $28,644 • Xavier University - $28,644 $25,191 • Miami University - $25,191 (Source: IPEDS Data Center, Fall 2015 Enrollment; NACUBO, FY 2016 Endowments) 5 161310 161310-Xavier 6 4_16_2018 10:22:35 AM Endowed Scholarships: $60 Million Goal For some students, a scholarship is the difference between attending Xavier or settling for another school they can afford. For those students who value the kind of education that only a Jesuit institution like Xavier can deliver, a scholarship may be their only chance. Through endowed scholarships, we can make a Xavier education attainable for everyone, regardless of financial status. Endowed scholarships are permanently invested funds that provide annual income for students with financial need or reward high-achieving students. An endowed scholarship is an investment in the future of our students, the University and the legacy of the donor. Financial commitments to create endowed scholarships can be made at various levels. Scholarships must reach a minimum level of $50,000 in order to provide tuition assistance for students. SCHOLARSHIPS AT XAVIER ENDOWED 401 SCHOLARSHIPS PROVIDE AID TO STUDENTS. OF AN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IS RESERVED 4.25% FOR STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS EACH YEAR. STUDENTS RECEIVE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS 692 EACH YEAR. OF FRESHMEN RECEIVE SOME FORM OF FINANCIAL AID, 99% INCLUDING SCHOLARSHIPS. 6 “ This scholarship, along with financial aid, was a really big help when I was considering different schools. It allowed me to invest in my future and pursue the Jesuit values I’m passionate about.” —Mirka Gallo ’17 161310 161310-Xavier 7 4_16_2018 10:22:43 AM Endowed Programs: $40 Million Goal The Sedler Family Center for Experiential Learning in Business and the James and Delrose Eigel Center for Community-Engaged Learning are excellent examples of endowed programs that let students take their learning to the next level. They provide a rich variety of opportunities for students to put what they learn in the classroom to practice in the real world. A program endowment is a permanently invested fund that provides annual income to support that program. This allows Xavier to launch additional, creative opportunities for students. Your gifts to the Annual Fund, especially those at 1831 Society levels, allow us to keep tuition costs at levels that make Xavier affordable through financial aid to those students who want a Jesuit education but otherwise would not be able to attend. Each year, contributions to the Annual Fund generate over $8 million. These gifts support the mission of Xavier through: Financial aid for students. Internships and mentorships. Academic and extracurricular programs and activities. 9 161310 161310-Xavier 10 4_16_2018 10:23:08 AM We can serve boldly. Together. Opening Fall 2019 Capital Projects: $70 Million Goal The last campaign, To See Great Wonders, significantly transformed Xavier’s campus over the past 10 years with an abundance of new buildings including the Conaton Learning Commons, Smith Hall (the new Williams College of Business building) and the new residential and dining hall, as well as a beautifully renovated Alter Hall. But there is more to do. Your gifts to the campaign will help us continue to improve existing structures on campus and plan for and build new projects to meet the needs of our students and alumni today and in the future. Our campus today is a pleasing blend of historic structures with modern, technologically relevant new or renovated buildings that honor the past while responding to modern demands. You reaffirm our commitment to our students and the community by supporting the enhancement of existing facilities and new construction. 10 161310 161310-Xavier 11 4_16_2018 10:23:17 AM The HUB A new Health United Building now under construction will bring all health-related programs and services together under one roof. Xavier’s new partnership with TriHealth will usher in a new way of providing a health-conscious experience for college students that has at its core the concepts of interprofessional collaboration and Population Health—which emphasize keeping people healthy instead of waiting until they’re sick. This multi-faceted facility, opening in fall 2019, will be a national model of excellence that serves and supports the academic and recreational needs of our students and our health services. It’s the way of the future, says Dr. Stephen Cleves, a Xavier alum and the medical director of the McGrath Health and Wellness Center at Xavier. “Putting a medical office in with a rec center plus wellness facility is where health care is going,” he says. The HUB will house: Classrooms for health-related academic programs: Nursing, Health Services Administration, Occupational Therapy, Sport Studies and Radiologic Technology. A new recreation center. A new health and wellness space that will provide expert care for students, faculty and staff. Future academic space 11 161310 161310-Xavier 12 4_16_2018 10:23:25 AM “ Outside of our student-athletes’ achievements, the most visible changes in the department are the upgrades to the Cintas Center. If you’ve been to an event at Cintas Center this fall, you have likely seen the in-arena seating and hospitality changes...Even with the changes, we still have pages of priorities and improvements for the Cintas Center. As the building approaches its 20-year birthday, updates will be ongoing as we work to make sure we provide our fans, event attendees and student-athletes with the best facilities possible.” —Greg Christopher, Athletic Director 12 161310 161310-Xavier 13 4_16_2018 10:23:33 AM Cintas Center Xavier has made major improvements to the Cintas Center to enhance the student- athlete and fan experience by adding hospitality space, more comfortable seating and user-friendly technology, including: A new Courtside Club for floor-seat ticket holders.
