As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace. (1 Peter 4:10) The Foundation board looks humbly to God for the vision and direction to serve the parish and bring honor and glory to God’s name. God enriches the Church through all OUR MISSION its members in varied ways. Our diverse gifts INSPIRE state-funded Choice program. There are two other large sources of funding: the Parish us to GROW and persevere as critical thinkers, through regular contributions and the School Foundation through an endowment. problem-solvers, and peacemakers who LOVE Having only been at Saint Sebastian Parish for a couple of months, I am impressed God and SERVE others. with the work of this school foundation. The cost of educating a child grows as better curriculum and technical tools are developed to help all children thrive. The School Foundation provides that edge for the students at Saint Sebastian. Getting our children ready for the future takes creativity and commitment. The work of one generation is dependent on the work of the next. This moment is our time to make a difference, so the next generation has the tools and support they need to make their time count. In the 36 years since the Foundation was created, the School has received $2,550,692 from the Foundation, which has supplemented the parish’s contribution to the operation of the School. A net worth increase of $34,616, brings the net worth of the Foundation to $3,412,624 as of June 30, 2019. The annual transfer from the Foundation is based on average assets held over the previous five years. For the 2019-2020 school year, the Foundation will contribute $157,000 in support of current school operations. Please consider making the Foundation a regular part of your annual charitable giving plan, if it isn’t already. If you are considering having the School Foundation in your will, find out more about making a planned gift by contacting our Director of Development, Marlene Vidal, at (414) 453-1061 ext.124 or [email protected]. Yours in Christ, Rev. Peter Patrick Kimani Pastor 1 Greetings Saint Sebastian Community, I hope this finds you well and thriving in all aspects of life! Every summer I make a concerted effort to spend time in prayer, reflecting upon the blessings, challenges, dynamics, and events of the previous school year. I also ask God for guidance in choosing a theme for the upcoming school year that will best serve our community, knowing the Lord surely knows our needs better than we do. Our focus last year came from the Book of Esther, also aligning with the Old Testament theme of our all-school Masses: “Perhaps this is the moment for which you were created” (Esther 4:14). Queen Esther bravely used who she was, the gifts she was given, and the situation in which she was placed to save her people in a bold and faithful act. Over the course of the 2018-19 school year, our aim was for students to identify the gifts God has given them and how they might best use who they are to serve God in life’s “big” and “little” moments. Each day, someone’s goals of how to use his or her “moments” were shared in morning prayer as a recognition, inspiration, and reminder for us all. This year, our school theme (and our all-school Masses theme) comes from St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians in the New Testament: “May you have the strength to understand... how wide and long and high and deep is Christ’s love” (3:18). As a community, we reflect daily on how God shows love for us and how we might show love in return. It is always touching and encouraging to hear what our students both understand and hunger for in their relationships with God and others. All of the work we do as a parish and school community to form our students in faith, knowledge, and community-building skills is evident in the high quality education they receive and resources available. We thank you for the many ways you serve as stewards in time, talent, and treasure to help form all members of our diverse community. As adults called to grow and influence others, may we pause to recognize how we best use our God-given gifts in service to the Lord, as well as acknowledge the many ways Christ shows love for each of us daily. Thank you for your support, and God bless you! Ms. Heather Grams Principal 2 About the Foundation The Saint Sebastian School Foundation, a 501c3 organization, was founded in 1983 by the Reverend Gerald T. Schmitz, Andrew J. Stockhausen, Gerald F. Leow, and Hugh R. Braun. These forward-looking Parish members, in appreciation and respect for the Catholic education received by their children and so many parish children, created an endowed fund to be an ongoing (in perpetuity) source of financial support for Saint Sebastian School. Yearly, income earned by the fund is forwarded directly to the Parish to supplement the Parish’s contribution to the school. This is only made possible by funds raised from Saint Sebastian parish members, families, alumni and friends. Your donations to the Saint Sebastian School Foundation will ensure continued financial resources are available for the school. All donations will be graciously accepted including the option to pay in monthly installments, appreciated stock donations, qualified charitable distributions from IRAs, and through corporate giving. The Saint Sebastian School Foundation is proud to support our school. Our school continues to produce excellent academic results, year after year. Saint Sebastian School is a leader in the community, with a balanced group of diverse students. Every dollar you invest in the Saint Sebastian School Foundation is 100% tax deductible. Every contribution helps Saint Sebastian School continue to offer the best Catholic, elementary education possible.
