Oregon Senate Honors Senator Jackie Winters

OREGON SENATE DEMOCRATS Salem, Oregon Oregon State Legislature PRESS RELEASE June 21, 2021 CONTACT: Amanda Kraus, 503-986-1074 [email protected] Oregon Senate Honors Senator Jackie Winters SALEM – Today, the Oregon Senate passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 10 to honor the late Senator Jackie Winters (R-Salem) who served in the Legislature for more than 20 years. Senators spoke about her friendship, her legacy and her great contributions to her community and Oregon. “It was always a joy to work with Jackie,” said Senator Floyd Prozanski (D-Eugene). “We spent a great deal of time together to move forward criminal justice reform, especially juvenile justice reform. Her insight and her passion were unmatched. She could show great patience and would be quick to let you know if you were pushing her patience too far. We accomplished great things, and it truly wouldn’t have happened without her.” “It was an honor to serve with Senator Winters in our time together,” said Senator Lew Frederick (D-N/NE Portland). “She believed wholeheartedly in second chances and good policy. She learned from her experiences and she always sought to put people first, seek out justice and she was determined to keep Oregon moving forward for all Oregonians.” “I had the pleasure of knowing Jackie years ago. She contributed so much to our state long before she was elected,” said Senator Ginny Burdick (D-Portland). “In whatever role she served, she always had a true north, an exquisite humor and an infectious laugh that I can still hear today. I am lucky to have known her.” “Jackie was a quick wit. She held those around her to a high standard and she was also incredibly compassionate,” said Senator Elizabeth Steiner Hayward (D-NW Portland). “Throughout our time serving together she offered kindness and mentorship to many. While we are saddened by her absence in the Capitol, we certainly feel her presence.” In this bipartisan tribute, many acknowledged Senator Winters’ dedication to people and good policy, as well as her lasting impact on our state. Senate Concurrent Resolution 10 passed the Senate unanimously. The measure now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration. ### .
