Brampton, Ontario I.6VV 0A1 www.bramptongolf.com About Brampton Golf Club Founded in 1921, Brampton Golf Club was set along the rolling valley and floodplains of Etobicoke Creek. The original site, an intimate 9-hole course located south of Steeles Avenue and East of Highway 10, was charted by legendary architect, Stanley Thompson. As the game's popularity increased in the region, so too did Brampton's membership. It became apparent that the Club needed to expand to accommodate the growing demand in the community. So, in 1963, construction began on a new 18-hole course on an adjacent property immediately south of the original lands. Stanley Thompson had passed away just a few years before, so another architect of distinction, Clinton "Robbie" Robinson, was commissioned to design the champi onship course. "Robbie", as he was known, had apprenticed with Thompson for over a decade and was his closest disciple. He maintained many of Thompson's design principles in his vision for Brampton, and also incorporated Robert Trent Jones' "modern" design influences, aimed at developing courses which would be "tough but fair." Robinson became a conduit between classic and modern design, later mentoring Doug Carrick and Thomas McBroom as they rose to prominence as visionary architects. Long recognized for the great test of golf the course offers, Brampton has hosted several major amateur and professional competitions on its grounds, including: the 1969 Men's Ontario Amateur Championship; 1978, 79, '80, '81 and 1983 CPGA Senior Championships; 1984 Ontario Women's Amateur Championship; 1985 CPGA Championship; 1989 Canadian Tour Players Championship; and 2011 Ontario Men's Amateur Championship. The Club maintains a storied history of competitive acclaim, boasting many champion players in regional, provincial, national and international competitions. The myriad accolades of its players have secured for Brampton a verifiable reputation as a "players' club," and the moniker holds true to this day. jhjlft jte^ ,.* Brittany Marchand, BGC Member and Winner of the 2012 Ontario Women's Amateur Championship ei-5 THE GOLF ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO The Golf Association of Ontario (GAO) is the provincial sport organization for golf. Formed in 2001 following the amalgamation of the Ontario Ladies' Golf Association and the Ontario Golf Association, the merger combined the resources of both the OGA and the OLGA and their history of representing amateur golfers in Ontario for close to 80 years. In the early days of golf in Ontario, there were only a few small associations representing private clubs in the Toronto area that provided a service that was specific to golf championships. With the growth and development of the game, membership of the GAO now includes public, private and semi-private golf clubs. Our individual members belong to a golf club or have joined directly as a member of the GAO Public Player program. At the present time, the GAO represents over 450 member clubs and more than 100,000 individuals making it one of the largest amateur golf associations in the world. Initially the focus of the Association's service surrounded championship tournaments. However, the services provided by the GAO have grown substantially and the Association currently provides a wide range of programs that include: * Course and pace rating and course measurement of all member clubs. * Handicap Services through a provincial web-based network of clubs. * Sport Development, ranging from grassroots programs such as Mr. Knickers and Friends up to high performance athlete development as part of our Team Ontario program. * Educational and certification seminars on a range of subjects, including rules, course rating, scholarships, member services, and sport development. * Support for industry issues. * Scholarships for student athletes * Communications - through our web site, social media, electronic news, and Ontario Golf News magazine. The Golf Association of Ontario is affiliated Golf Canada in providing member services, carrying out national programs and promoting the growth of the game. The GAO also maintains important working relationships with a number of allied golf associations, including the Ontario Golf Course Superintendents Association, the PGA of Ontario and the Ontario chapters of the National Golf Course Owners Association. From rating courses and keeping the integral rules of the game intact, to growing the game at the grassroots level and getting the game of golf into our school systems, to keeping the Ontario golf community aware of all relevant issues and hosting the best amateur tournaments in Canada, the Golf Association of Ontario is a passionate group dedicated to making golf better for everyone in Ontario. We share a love and passion for golf, while preserving its past, fostering its future, and championing golf's best interests for everyone who enjoys the sport. ei-4> FACT SHEET 2014 Investors Group Ontario Women's Amateur Championship July 7-11, 2014 Brampton Golf Club, Brampton, Ontario Championship Information First played in 1904, the Investors Group Ontario Women's Amateur Championship is being contested for the 99th time in 2014.
