Keeping a 4-H record is cool and fun! It’s like writing your own history. Because it 10 County camp 6 helps you keep track of what you do and helps you review what you’ve learned in your project. Contact Information 7 4-H wouldn’t be the same without records. They’re an important part of completing each project. They help you set some goals, keep track of your attendance at 4-h meetings and functions, record your demonstrations and talks, and a whole lot more. Senior 4-H’ers (14-18) also have the opportunity to take their recordbook to state competition if they place in the top 3 of their recordbook category at district. This looks very good on scholarship applications! I highly encourage every 4-H’er to complete a recordbook every year. I believe this is particularly important for any kids who are ever going to apply for any scholarships (I HOPE THIS IS EVERYONE!). The information contained in a recordbook is the same information you will need to complete a 4-H scholarship application. I will conduct a 4-H Recordbook Training on Monday June 15 beginning at 6:00 pm in the extension office. Don’t miss this training! Please call the extension office if you plan to attend so that I can have plenty of materials for everyone. Page 2 June 2010 HORSE CLINIC We will be having a 4-H horse clinic in Crowell on June 19th. The clinician will be Chance O’neal, the head horse trainer at the 6666 ranch in Guthrie. Chance will be focusing on working cow horse, and basic horsemanship. The cost for the clinic is only $20 which will include a hamburger lunch and lots of good training. The clinic will start at 8 am at the Foard 4-H arena in Crowell and will probably conclude sometime shortly after lunch. Chance is a great teacher; this will be a great opportunity for some last minute training before the district horse show. The show had a good turnout with 10 Pee-Wees (under 8 years old), 14 Juniors (3rd through 8th grade), and 4 Seniors (high school age). Our judge this year was Sarah Puerner, an intern at the 6666 Ranch and also a Colorado State University Horse Judger. She did a great job for our kids. Each of these kids competed in multiple horse contests. The Senior High Point Buckle was awarded to Dakota Smith from Quanah. The Junior High Point Buckle was awarded to Montana Smith from Quanah. The Pee-Wee High Point Trophy was awarded to Seth Bearden, son of Scott and Stepha- nie Bearden of Crowell. It takes a lot of work to put this horse show on each year. There are too many names to thank for this event. I want to thank each person who made this event possible. The Foard County Horse Club, a group of 10 people, fully sponsors this for the kids each year. We gave away hundreds of dollars in prizes to kids this year with a minimal entry fee. Congratulations to all of the kids. Crowell Ranch Rodeo Team Sign-Up The 2nd Annual Crowell Ranch Rodeo will take place this year on July 16th and 17th at the Foard County Horse Club Arena. We will be having 24 teams this year (12 on Friday night and 12 on Saturday night). We would like to have all of our teams signed up by July 1st. Each team will consist of 4 people with a $400 entry fee per team. Teams will be competing in Wild Cow Milking, Sorting/Doctoring, Team Branding, and Remuda Roping. We expect a big event this year, so if you are interested in signing up a team, don’t wait. Extension programs serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability or national origin.
