Jesuit Clubs and Activities 2018-2019 Jesuit clubs are 100% student run through an annual process of proposals and renewals. Club proposals are taken from the first day of school through the first semester. If you have questions about a specific club email the specific club moderator. Updated 11/15/2018 Anime Club Student Leaders: Kimberly Soot & Khoa Van Moderator: Mr. Yanosy Meeting Place: 59 Time: Tuesdays @ 2:45 p.m. Anime club offers a place where Jesuit Students can enjoy and analyze Japanese culture within the medium of Anime. Asian American Girls Club Student Leaders: Anu Nair, Sujena Soumyanath Moderator: Ms. Mathes Meeting Place: Room 40 Time: Wednesdays @ 2:45 p.m. (monthly) Our mission is to provide a safe space for young Asian American women to talk, gather, and build a sense of community around issues specific to young women. Black Student Union Student Leaders: Maya Williams, Samara Andre Moderator: Mr. Lowery Meeting Place: Diversity Office Time: Tuesdays @ 8:40 a.m. (every other week) Black student union (BSU) is a student run club that's primary goal is to provide support for our African and African-American/ black students. It is open to all students, and allows its members the opportunity to share African and African-American culture with the entire student body in the attempt to build awareness and community Border Solidarity Club Student Leaders: Kate Thompson, Essie Humberston Moderator: Ms. Craft Meeting Place: Room 14 Time: Thursdays @ 2:45 p.m.(monthly) The mission of the Border Solidarity Clubs is to establish a platform at Jesuit to discuss, humanize and advocate for immigrant rights and just policies. Celebrating Abilities Club Student Leaders: Madelyn Schur, Emma Hart Moderator: Ms. Casey Meeting Place: Room 51 Time: Mondyas @ 2:45 p.m. The mission of celebrating abilities club is to create and maintain bonds with people with disabilities that attend camps for people with disabilities that Jesuit students volunteer with, especially Mount Hood Kiwanis Camp. Chess Club Student Leaders: Mitchell Nee, Nathan Lee Moderator: Ms. Fitzpatrick-Bjorn & Mr. Lum Meeting Place: Cardoner Time: Mondays @ 2:35 p.m. The Jesuit High School Chess Club strives to create an enjoyable yet focused environment to practice, study, and discuss chess for both experienced and inexperienced players at Jesuit High School. Chinese Culture Club Student Leaders: Kimberly Soot, Alina Nguyen Moderator: Ms. Shih-Emmi Meeting Place: Room 30 Time: Thursdays @2:45 (monthly) Chinese Culture Club strives to enrich its members’ knowledge through unique, engaging, and informative activities that explore the many facets of Chinese culture. Coffee House Moderator: Mr. Reis Meeting Place: Please listen for announcements regarding Coffee House locations and time (which are on Jesuit’s campus) Coffee House provides four opportunities a year for the community to gather and support students who want to share their talents in a fun, safe (and parent-free) environment. Computer Science (CS) Club Student Leaders: Mithra Karamchedu Moderator: Mr. Cowal, Dr. Gorman Meeting Place: Room 43 (Mon) and 63 (Fri) Time: Every Monday and Friday @ 2:45 We want to create a learning environment where those interested in computer science or in need of help can discuss problems, learn about theory and hardware, and have fun. Dance Club Student Leaders: Natalie Pernas, Janelle Gaerlan Moderators: Mr. Kato, Ms. Lowery Meeting Place: Choir Room Time: every other Monday, 2:45- 3:15 The mission of Dance Club is to provide students with a place to learn new dance moves, socialize after school, and eat snacks. Since Jesuit has no dance team, Dance Club takes on a similar approach, with less commitment. Digital Beats Design Club Student Leaders: O’Dell Sagoo, Hanjin Jacobs Moderator: Mr. Kato Meeting Place: 51 Time: Tuesday at 2:50 p.m., (every week) The purpose of the Digital Beats Design Club is to create music with the intention of performing it at an end of the year benefit concert. Diversity Club Student Leaders: Naomi Kasahun, Yosan Tewelde, Amen Zelalem Moderator: Ms. Lowery Meeting Place: Diversity Office Time: 2nd Thursday of every month @. 2:45 p.m The purpose of Diversity Club is to explore the wide variety of cultures and backgrounds around the world represented at Jesuit and to encourage unity in a community. DJ Club Student Leader: Mia Simmons Moderator: Ms. Milton Meeting Place: Room 58 Time: once a month DJ Club’s mission is to foster an open environment for students to learn and explore DJing. This includes the opportunity to practice mixing, scratching, and looping music. Drama Club Student Leaders: Essie Humberston, Markos Buhler, Lilly Webb, Nick Pliska Moderators: Mr. Hall & Ms. Kloser Meeting Place: Black Box Theater Time: Wednesdays @ 2:45 The goals of this year are to get as many students involved as possible in theatre, whether that’s through auditions, workshops, mixers, or drama club. History Bowl Student Leaders: Wenjun Hou & Parthav Easwar Moderator: Mr. Flamoe Meeting Place: Room 57 Time: Wednesdays 2:35 p.m. (every week) The purpose of History Bowl is to increase student interest in world history by participating in the National History Bee & Bowl. Every meeting will involve fun, buzzer-based competition between you and your friends and classmates. Junior State of America Student Leaders: Brian Xu, Devansh Khunteta Moderator: Ms. Mathes Meeting Place: Room 40 Time: Fridays @ 2:45 p.m. The mission of Junior State of American and the Junior Statesman Foundation (JSA) is to strengthen American democracy by educating and preparing high school students for lifelong involvement and responsible leadership in a democratic society. Kindness Club Student Leaders: Sienna Wheeler, Maddy Thomas Moderator: Ms. Shamieh Meeting Place: Room 57 Time: Wednesdays 2:35 p.m. (every week) Kindness club’s mission is to a prompt connection between people through random acts of kindness, inspirational posters, and letters. Latino Student Union Student Leaders: Jesse Acosta, Emlyn Romero Hernandez Moderator: Ms. McManamon Meeting Place: Diversity Office Time: Thursdays @ 2:45 (twice a month) The mission is to build bridges, not walls, “porque los latinos unisons jama serán vencidos.” Math Club Student Leaders: Rupert Li, Kevin Sunderland Moderator: Dr. Gorman Meeting Place: Room 63 Time: Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. The Mathematics Club seeks to inspire and educate all about a myriad of mathematical topics, as well as about problem-solving within the context of mathematical thinking; to that end, we strive to offer math help but also glimpses of mathematics beyond the high school setting, welcoming all who seek truth.
