B’H, BAYT has had ZERO cases of COVID-19 transmission at a BAYT minyan indoors or out, thanks to our members. We will do everything we can to keep it that way. Once again, we have to restrict seating in all of our minyanim. While we may not be able to fulfill your specific seating preferences, we are able to offer seating to ALL of our members. Our two outdoor tents accommodate no more than 100 people each. With three outdoor minyanim, we can accommodate no more than 300 persons outdoors. Indoor or outdoor, an overcrowding situation increases the risks of transmission of the virulent Delta variant. We cannot oversubscribe outdoor seating, particularly when masking outdoors is not mandated by law. Indoors, BAYT and its members strictly adhere to social distancing and masking requirements. If you requested an outdoor seat for your and/or your family but know you will not use all or even one of the seats, please let us know as soon as possible so we can put the seat(s) to good use. Please e-mail [email protected], [email protected], or [email protected] Vaccines We understand L4J (Thornhill) is a COVID hotspot once again. Vaccine uptake is low and of concern to public health authorities. We are also aware of a growing number of severe delta cases in people who were previously infected but not vaccinated. It is a myth within the Jewish community that a prior COVID-19 infection will protect from reinfection; prior COVID infection is not protective and not a reason for hesitating to get vaccinated. In preparation for the Yamim Noraim, BAYT’s COVID-19 committee and Rabbi Korobkin met last night. We are aware many shuls have adopted policies allowing only fully vaccinated members to attend minyanim. BAYT will not do so at this time. However, we request if you are age-eligible but have not yet received at least one vaccine dose at least 14 days prior, please refrain from attending BAYT indoors or outdoors for the Yamim Noraim because you do not yet have decreased transmissibility. Capacity Limitations BAYT’s capacity limitations allow persons to maintain a physical distance of at least 2 metres from other persons as required under the Phase 3 regulations (exceptions are made for family members who live together). Each location at BAYT has the capacity limit posted outside the room. The capacity of the main shul for religious services (including a chuppah) is 250 persons. Please sit only in seats marked with green tape on back of the seat. Do not move chairs around in other minyanim. Face Coverings Required Inside BAYT Province of Ontario Phase 3 emergency regulations require everyone to wear a face covering such as a non- medical mask while attending an indoor religious service. A plastic face shield or mouth/nose covering alone does not replace a face covering. If you consider yourself to be high risk, you may want to wear a face cover- ing while at an outdoor minyan at BAYT. Who Should Not Attend a Minyan at BAYT You Feel Unwell, even if You or Your Doctor Do Not Believe It is COVID-19 The Ontario Ministry of Health advises to stay home if you or anyone living with you have any of the follow- ing symptoms unrelated to other known causes or conditions you already have: fever or chills; cough, barking cough or shortness of breath; sore throat or difficulty swallowing; runny, stuffy, or congested nose; lost sense of taste or smell; pink eye (conjunctivitis); headache that is unusual or long lasting; digestive issues (nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain); muscle aches; extreme tiredness that is unusual (fatigue, lack of energy); falling down often and for young children and infants: sluggishness or lack of appetite. ANNOUNCEMENTS You or a “Close Contact” Has or May Be Suspected of Having COVID-19 This includes anyone who has tested positive for or is awaiting a COVID test result; has any symptoms of COVID-19; is in self-isolation (even if asymptomatic); was outside of Canada within the past 14 days and does not qualify for a federal quarantine exemption; or received a COVID Alert exposure notification on their cell phone in the past 14 days. If any of these apply to you or some one you were in “close contact” with, please do not attend BAYT. Ontario defines a “close contact” as (1) someone with whom you have been within 2 metres for more than 10 minutes; (2) someone who lives in your household or provides care to you; (3) someone with whom you have had close physical contact including a handshake; or (4) someone who accidently coughed, sneezed or spit on you while talking with you. Report Illness and Positive COVID Test Results to BAYT Immediately If you attended a minyan at BAYT, please let us know immediately if you receive a positive COVID-19 test result or if you have symptoms of COVID-19 and are awaiting a test result. * * * * * Thank you for continuing to do you part keeping our kehillah safe and healthy. Shabbat Shalom. Jeffrey M. Brown, President We are excited to announce a new Kiddush Fund that has been established by David & Shari Vodianoi to ensure regular kiddushim at the new Young Adults & Families minyan. This wonderful initiative is in honour of the recent marriage of Les Fluxgold to Haley Field. Just as their marriage represents a new beginning and future, so may our Young Adults & Families minyan represent a new beginning and future for our amazing BAYT!
