On 20 January, IOM estimated a total number of 46,150 individuals (9,230 households) sheltering in 32 sites of displacement (schools and other public United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) www.unocha.org/sudan | Twitter: @UNOCHA_Sudan Flash Update: Ag Geneina conflict | 2 buildings) dispersed across Ag Geneina town, having fled their homes in Krinding IDP Camp and other unverified locations. IOM reports that shelter and NFIs, water, food and health are the top priorities for the displaced people, echoing earlier reports from the HAC. The SMoH said the number of people killed is expected to increase as more bodies are being discovered. South Darfur On 18 January, HAC in South Darfur reported that 56 people were killed and another 42 injured following clashes between members of the Fallata and Rizeigat tribes in Tuel village of Gereida locality (15km southeast of Gereida town). Gereida hosts one of the biggest IDP camps in Sudan, with a population of more than 72,000. Humanitarian organisations provide support to IDPs in Gereida town and adjoining camps. RESPONSE PLAN West Darfur Food: There are sufficient food supplies in Ag Geneina and in Zalingi to meet the needs of the displaced in Ag Geneina. WFP and partners distribution is due to start shortly. Health: On 21 January, WHO with the SMoH distributed trauma kits to provide emergency care to IDPs in Ag Geneina. On 20 January, a government flight to Ag Geneina took medical equipment, including beds and orthopaedic supplies and evacuated some critically wounded people. Shelter/NFI: plan a two-fold response: 1) immediate distribution of 9,000 partial NFI kits available in the UNHCR West Darfur warehouse, while expecting supplementary stock from El Fasher and Nyala. 2) distribution of 2,000 NFI kits by the beginning of next week made available by the IOM Rapid Response Fund and distributed through local NGO SORR. The remaining NFI needs will be covered by the sector and distribution will start as soon as the security situation permits. A further 1,920 families (about 9,600 people) will receive UNHCR cash for shelter grants through Save the Children. The transfers will allow IDPs to buy shelter materials as part of the second phase of the response. WASH: UNICEF will start water trucking to IDP gathering sites as soon as the list of the sites is finalised.
