J:J..~-Ott . 1 [Commendation for Dr. Julianne Malveaux] 2 3 Resolution commending Dr. Julianne Malveaux on her appointment as the 15th President of Bennett College for Women and proclaiming March 24, 2008 Dr. Julianne 4 Malveaux day in San Francisco. 5 6 WHEREAS, Dr. Julian Malveaux a native San Franciscan, committed activist and civic 7 leader has been appointed the 15th President of Bennett College for Women; and, . 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Malveaux's contributions to the public dialogue on issues such as 9 race, culture, gender, and their economic impacts, are helping to shape public opinion in 21st 10 century America; and, 11 WHEREAS, Dr. Malveaux is recognized for her provocative, progressive and insightful 12 observations, Dr. Malveaux, a respected economist, author, columnist and commentator is 13 known as an authority on politics, economics, gender, race, national affairs, and the 14 workplace. Sex, Lies, and Stereotypes: Perspectives of a Mad Economist, the first of 15 Malveaux's two "Mad Economist" books, was published in 1994 and, 16 WHEREAS, Dr. Malveaux, an impassioned activist whose contributions to the public 17 dialogue on issues of racism, sexism have been described by Dr. Cornel West as "the most 18 iconoclastic public intellectual in the country", and 19 WHEREAS, Dr. Malveaux, is the President and CEO of Last Word Productions, Inc, a 20 multimedia production company.
