Player Profile: Michelle Murphy Name: Michelle Murphy Age: 24 Club: Blackrock Position: Midfield / Half Forward How have you found the league campaign to date? It’s great to be back playing competitive games after such a long break and the standard has been very high considering the length of time we were all out of action with lockdown. What do you enjoy the most about being back? Training as a team and pushing each other in each session was a welcome change from training on my own throughout the long break. The banter that comes with training collectively is however definitely the most enjoyable part of being back. How did you stay motivated during the lockdown? It was tough to stay motivated throughout lockdown with no clarity to when we would return. I was lucky enough to collect enough equipment throughout the various lockdowns to keep me going. Then building a routine similar to when we would have been training and sticking to it each week massively helped keep me focused and motivated to put myself in the best position physically to return to play. One piece of advic for young and upcoming players? Don’t compare yourself to others. Work hard to improve yourself and become the best you can be, a lot of the time hard work trumps talent. What are your aspirations for the year ahead? Of course the main goal would be to win an All Ireland with the team. On a personal level I aim to work hard and become a serious contender for match day selection with each game. @CorkCamogie @corkcamogie Cork Camogie Player Profile: Lisa Casserly Name: Lisa Casserly Age: 24 Club: Ballinderreen Position: Wing Back / Midfield How have you found the league campaign to date? After not being able to play last year, I feel the league is extra competitive this year, everyone is hungry to play. I think we as a team are growing and learning with every match. What do you enjoy the most about being back? Definitely the social element! I love being back training with the group, it was hard training individually. Also having competitive matches to work towards is great. How did you stay motivated during the lockdown? We had a good strength and conditioning programme which definitely helped me stay motivated and just having a positive outlook that we were going to back playing this year allowed me to stay focused. Piece of advice for young and upcoming players? Always be looking to learn at every training session and never forget that hard work always pays off. Galway Camogie @GalwayCamogie96 @officialgalwaycamogie Galway V Tipperary Match Report by Sarah Gaughran: Galway Camogie PRO Galway got their first win under their belt in the Littlewoods Ireland Division 2 National Camogie League on Saturday in Kenny Park. It was a very good team performance and a much-improved performance from last week’s loss against Kerry but there are injury concerns for the Galway captain Ciara Donohue who had to go off during with a hand injury in the first half. Murray’s charges started the brightest with points within the first minute from Áine Keane and Cora Kenny. Galway had a goal chance in the 9th minute. A fantastic team effort with Caoimhe Mahon, Molly Burke, Tegan Canning, Lisa Casserly and Niamh Niland all involved but Sarah Quigley, the Tipperary goalie, pulled off a fantastic save. Jenny Grace got Tipperary’s first score in the 13th minute through a free and she added another point from play on the 18th minute to leave the teams on level terms. Galway lost Ciara Donohue on the 18th minute to a hand injury. Niland and Elisiha Broderick worked hard to hold up Tipperary’s Ciara Ryan and they won a free which Keane converted. Keane added another free a minute later to leave Galway two ahead, but Jill Anne Quirke added a point for Tipperary on the 25th minute to reduce their deficit to one. Keane set up Niland on the 28th and Niland added to Galway’s tally. Grace won a free on the sideline 45m out and she sent a fantastic high ball into the Galway square and into the back of the Galway net to put Tipperary in front for the first time in the game. Galway didn’t drop their heads and Broadrick added another point for Galway on the 31 st minute to leave the sides level at half time. It seems Galway learnt lessons from last weekend’s game. They came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half scoring 2-3 without reply in the first 3 minutes of the half. Goals from Kenny and Mairead Dillon and points from Niland (2) and Dillon (1) saw Galway 2-9 to 1-3 ahead in the first 3 minutes of the half. Sinead Meagher stopped the Galway scoring spree in the 4th minute when she added a free for Tipperary before Niland added another point for Galway on the 7th minute. Dillon added to Galway’s tally on the 11th minute before Grace blasted the ball into the Galway net from a 21- yard free just before the water break. Dillon and Molly Mannion added points for Galway on the resumption. Grace added three more frees for Tipperary in the final 8 minutes and Tara Ruttledge added a point for Galway to leave it Galway 2-14 Tipperary 2-7. Galway had some fantastic performances throughout the field. Laura Ward, Caoimhe Mahon and Lisa Casserly performed very well in defence while up front, Niland, Dillon and Keane were accurate for the tribeswomen. For Tipperary, Sarah Quigley pulled off a few fantastic saves in goals, Ciara Ryan and Courtney Ryan played well in defence, while up front Jenny Grace and Jill Anne Quirke performed well. This win means Galway must win their home game against Cork next week to ensure qualification for the knockout stages of the league. www.camogie.ie Official Camogie Association @OfficialCamogie @officialcamogie OfficialCamogie .
